Why This Role Matters

A design system is only as strong as the team and leadership behind it. This role owns the full strategy, architecture, and evolution of Personify Health's cross-platform design system — the foundational layer powering our Angular web platform and native iOS/Android applications. What this team builds sets the standard for every product surface our members touch, and every engineering team that builds on top of it.

What You'll Actually Do

Own the design system roadmap: Define and drive the direction of the Personify Health design system across Angular web and native mobile surfaces — spanning the component library, design tokens, theming architecture, and visual language.

Govern component standards and architecture: Establish and enforce component API standards, design token architecture (color, typography, spacing, elevation), accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA), and versioning and deprecation policies across Angular and native mobile implementations.

Enable the next-generation platform: Lead the team's migration away from legacy AngularJS and Angular 8 patterns toward standalone Angular components and modern Angular 20 architecture — ensuring clean integration within the Single-SPA micro-frontend environment.

Drive cross-platform consistency: Define shared design language and coordinate implementation parity between Angular web components and native mobile counterparts (iOS Swift/SwiftUI, Android Kotlin/Jetpack Compose), with clear contracts between the design system team and consuming teams.

Own component documentation and tooling: Maintain Storybook (or equivalent) as the canonical component documentation and development sandbox, and manage release cadence including changelogs, semantic versioning, and breaking change communication.

Manage and grow the team: Lead performance reviews, career development, and hiring for a team of frontend engineers specializing in design systems, component authoring, and cross-platform UI.

Track and improve design system health: Define and monitor success metrics including component adoption rate, design-to-code fidelity, accessibility audit scores, and consuming team satisfaction — and systematically address technical debt within the component library.

Qualifications

What You Bring to Our Team

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong frontend focus
• 3+ years in an engineering management or tech lead role
• Proven experience owning or contributing significantly to a design system or component library at scale

Technical Skills

Required:

• Deep hands-on experience with Angular (v14+; Angular 20 a strong plus) and TypeScript
• Familiarity with micro-frontend architecture (Single-SPA, Module Federation, or similar)
• Experience with Nx monorepo tooling or equivalent (Turborepo, Lerna)
• Strong command of CSS architecture, design tokens, and theming systems (CSS custom properties, SCSS, utility-first approaches)
• Experience collaborating with Product Design using Figma or equivalent
• Solid understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, ARIA)

Preferred:

• Hands-on experience with native mobile development (iOS Swift/SwiftUI and/or Android Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) or direct collaboration with native mobile teams on shared design system components
• Familiarity with Style Dictionary, Storybook, or similar design token and component documentation tooling
• Experience evaluating or migrating between design systems or component library frameworks
• Angular Material library governance and versioning experience
• Experience with Angular state management (NgRx, Redux)
