About this role

Department Overview

A postdoctoral fellow position in myelin biology is available in the laboratory of Ben Emery in the Jungers Center for Neurosciences Research at Oregon Health and Science University. The position is for the bioinformatic investigation of central nervous system remyelination and neuroglial interactions in mouse models and human datasets. The candidate should have strong (preferably published) experience in genetic mouse models of demyelination and remyelination. In addition, proficiency in all or most of the following methodologies is preferred: (1) Histology and light microscopy (2) Single cell and/or single nuclei RNA-Seq analysis methods (3) Mouse genetics and use of conditional knockout and transgenic lines. The successful candidate will also have excellent documentation and communication skills. The position may be in person, remote or hybrid.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Run a research project investigating CNS cell interactions during remyelination.ย  This project will include the use of genetic models of demyelination, snRNA-sequencing and histological analyses.
  • Regularly attend and contribute to laboratory and departmental meetings.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts.
  • Keep abreast of the scientific literature relevant to the project.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD Neuroscience
  • Relevant skills in rodent models of CNS injury, bioinformatics and machine learning approaches to microscopy analysis
  • Excellent documentation and written communication skills
  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
