Department Overview

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at OHSU seeks a full-time, qualified academic gynecologist with subspecialty training in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). The selected candidate will provide care for patients in need of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and treatment of pelvic pain. Applicants should have exceptional clinical and surgical skills and enjoy training medical students, OB-GYN residents and fellows in the clinic and operating room. This position is intended to establish a clinical Gynecology practice, focused on complex benign gynecology. Clinical responsibilities will include Gynecology outpatient clinics (including evaluation and management of complex gynecologic pathology and performance of office procedures), surgical Gynecology and participation in the Gynecology back-up call pool. There are no obstetric requirements for this position. The position will also be expected to participate in the department's educational, research, and administrative responsibilities. The Assistant or Associate Professor is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as an MD, with completion of an Ob/Gyn Residency as well as completion of a Complex Benign Gynecology Fellowship (formerly known as Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery). The candidate will have demonstrated excellence in both research and surgical education to fulfill this role. The Assistant or Associate Professor is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws, and shall provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services at OHSU and OHSU Health partner sites as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The Assistant or Associate Professor is expected to comply with all laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):

Provide an outstanding level of clinical performance in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.  Responsibilities include:

  • Participation in the group clinical practice at the Center for Women’s Health and OHSU Partners sites with a focus in complex benign gynecology
  • Helping to maintain a Multidisciplinary Chronic Pelvic Pain clinic
  • Delivery of advanced surgical endometriosis management
  • Providing backup OR support for the division and providers of General Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Managing surgically complex patients with benign gynecologic conditions including intraoperative consultative services for general OB/GYN practitioners (when requested)
  • Maintaining a fair-share of gynecology call, some of which will require off-site presence at OHSU and OHSU Health partner sites

Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.):

  • Like all OHSU faculty members, Assistant and Associate Professors are expected to have some scholarly activity; this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. Assistant and Associate Professor faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.

Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught):

  • This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in Obstetrics and Gynecology rotations. The Assistant and Associate Professor may also help with clinical teaching of nurse and APP trainees. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the outpatient clinic environment, this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in obstetrics and gynecology. Participation in simulation labs and didactics for different levels of trainees is expected.

Administrative Activities:

  • As an OHSU faculty member this position would be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level, and serve on OHSU committees and in other activities as requested by the department chair or division head in furtherance of division, department, or OHSU goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • MD degree
  • Oregon licensure
  • Completion of an ACGME approved 4-year residency in OB-GYN
  • Completed fellowship in Complex Benign Gynecology (formerly known as Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery)
  • Prior surgical experience is required to perform a broad range of surgeries independently, and to instruct learners in surgery.
  • Potential for academic accomplishment
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
