About this role

Department Overview

The EEG Technologist performs routine and advanced electroencephalography (EEG) procedures in inpatient and outpatient settings. This role is responsible for high quality data acquisition, patient safety, and accurate documentation to support clinical interpretation. The technologist works under indirect supervision and collaborates with physicians, senior technologists, and the broader care team.

 

The EEG Technologist prepares patients and conducts routine and advanced outpatient, inpatient, and extra operative END procedures; collects data pertinent to the interpretation of test results and assists medical staff with complex recordings.

Function/Duties of Position

EEG Technologist:

  • Prepare patients and obtain comprehensive clinical histories.
  • Accurately measure and apply EEG electrodes following established standards (<5 kΩ).
  • Perform routine, long‑term, and advanced EEG studies according to departmental protocols.
  • Recognize, troubleshoot, and reduce artifacts to ensure optimal recording quality.
  • Document patient behavior, clinical events, and relevant observations.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness, report malfunctions, and follow safety and infection‑control procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff using AIDET principles.
  • Support a collaborative and patient‑centered work environment.

Required Qualifications

Will be hired into the role based on qualifications the candidate meets:

 

END Technologist 1

  • High school graduate or equivalent and 1 year experience working in a neurodiagnostic patient care environment; OR
  • Student enrolled at least 6 months in ABRET recognized program and 6 months experience working in a patient care environment; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field. 
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

END Technologist 2

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • One year of experience in the performance of procedures in a patient care environment;
  • Certification in the following will be required upon hire: 
    • EEG/Electroencephalography: R. EEG T.
    • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

END Specialist

  • Three years of experience in the neurodiagnostic field which includes one year experience in their specialty modality of practice. 
  • Certification in the following will be required upon hire: 

    • Certification Examination in Long Term Monitoring (CLTM)
    • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Computer literacy 
  • Ability to troubleshoot common equipment problems 
  • Clear, concise written documentation and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Knowledge of current techniques/regulatory standards
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university will substitute for this education
  • Completion of an ABRET recognized neurodiagnostic program. 
  • R. EEG T. credential. 
  • CLTM certification (or eligibility) for candidates performing advanced/EMU/ICU monitoring. 
  • Experience with ICU, EMU, or longterm monitoring studies. 
  • Knowledge of current neurodiagnostic techniques, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. 

Additional Details

Pay Range: 

 

END Technologist 1 $34.04 - $46.05 per hour

END Technologist 2 $36.88 - $50.63 per hour 

END Specialist: $42.74 - $58.70 per hour

 

HRC, DCH and KPV. Possible exposure to human tissue/fluids with direct patient contact
