About this role

Department Overview

The NDA provides continuous monitoring of patients undergoing EEG recording for safety, either in room or

via remote video monitoring. Alerts supervisor and/or activate hospital systems such as rapid response, cardiac arrest, etc. per established protocols when encountering patient clinical issues. Will assist Neurodiagnostic technologists with restocking supplies, electrode removal and disinfection as needed.  May communicate with patients and bedside staff to obtain information about events. May document observations.

 

Receives general technical supervision by an END 2 or above. The NDA does not analyze EEG data

Function/Duties of Position

Patient Observation:

  • Neurodiagnostic Assistant (NDA)observe and monitor patients within the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). NDAs perform clinical seizure recognition, patient safety and respond to patient emergencies in the EMU. NDAs will work in tandem with credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologists (R. EEG T. or CLTM) as well as the full multi-disciplinary epilepsy center team.

Patient Video Monitoring:

  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of the continuous video monitoring software. Always maintains constant visual observation. Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device located in a patient’s room. Alerts nursing and/or technologist staff when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur.  Documents interactions within the electronic health record. 

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Maintains clean testing equipment, maintains proper sanitization of supplies and surrounding area, and reports equipment malfunctions in writing to the engineer.

Customer Satisfaction:

  • Follows OHSU’s customer service philosophy and follows AIDET forms of communication. Works to understand and correct the most common customer service complaints. Follows customer service satisfaction scores and helps the department achieve the highest-level scores possible by working to become a leader in customer service.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Successful completion of LTM 100 Introduction to LTM for EMU Personnel within 30 days of hire. 

  • Completion of 20 hours of observation in an EMU or Neurodiagnostic Lab under the direction of a credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologist (R. EEG T., or CLTM) upon hire. 

  • Positions within person patient care: BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice, whichever comes first

  • Entry level PC or Microsoft Windows knowledge.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Program
  • or an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university 
  • 2 years of Experience in Pediatric and Adult EEG, long term monitoring and EMU.

Additional Details

HRC, DCH, and KPV locations on campus. Possible exposure to human tissue/fluids and direct patient contact. Ability to carry and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit for up to 8 continuous hours a day. Some standing, bending or leaning forward may be needed.
