ABOUT BELLA COOLA, BC:

 

Bella Coola sits in a mountain valley at the head of the North Bentinck Channel, 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of about 1800 people. The community is at the end of a long, truly magnificent fjord, on the mainland coast of British Columbia. Bella Coola General Hospital has 10 acute bed, 5 residential beds and a 3 bed emergency department open 24/7, along with a laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, Telehealth, Mental Health, Public Health, Home & Community Support Services. Also within the hospital are a medical clinic and a pharmacy.

 

As an Occupational Therapist with VCH you will:

  • Provide occupational therapy services to acute inpatients, long term care residents and community clients to achieve quality client focused care and enable clients to develop healthy patterns of occupations.
  • Perform duties including identifying and assessing client’s occupational performance issues utilizing an evidence-based approach, planning and implementing goal directed services, evaluating the effectiveness of the service, and preparing and maintaining records.
  • Contribute to the organization and delivery of occupational therapy services, and participate in departmental/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research, and education.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy plus two years’ recent related experience and or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License & access to a personal vehicle required for local travel.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical area.
  • Broad knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.
  • Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for occupational therapy treatment.
  • Basic computer literacy.
