The Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Division of Cardiology invites applications from outstanding cardiologists with fellowship training in cardiac critical care. This position is based at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), which is a University of British Columbia (UBC)-affiliated teaching hospital. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue an academically focused career based on either a strong track record and commitment to Education scholarship or a strong publication and research track record, signaling their ability to obtain peer reviewed grant funding.

 

The cardiac intensive care unit at Vancouver General Hospital is a Level 1 quaternary referral center for the province and manages complex patients with advanced heart failure, complex arrhythmias and acute coronary syndromes. We work closely and collaboratively with other critical care colleagues and provide access to clinical rotations in cardiac critical care to medical students and residents from multiple specialties within the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. The General Cardiology Program at Vancouver General Hospital is growing and requires another recruit to support its activities and further expansion. In addition to critical care, the position at VGH will involve ambulatory general cardiology clinic and the inpatient cardiology consultation and ward service.

 

Applicants must possess RCPSC designation in Internal Medicine and Cardiology or their equivalents, fellowship training in cardiac critical care and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research and possess exceptional work ethics and collegiality.

This role will also be clinical faculty position within the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). As part of the UBC Division of Cardiology’s academic focus, the successful candidate is expected to support the development and growth of the UBC Cardiology research and education programs. The Divisions of Cardiology will support an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher, however clinical faculty appointments at UBC are assigned at a rank determined by the Appointments and Promotion Committee of the UBC Department of Medicine.

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC)
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) - Desired
