Patient Transporter (weekends)

Overview

The Patient Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and respectful movement of patients, equipment, and essential items throughout the hospital. This role ensures accurate communication with clinical teams, maintains a clean and safe environment, and supports patient comfort during transport. The Transporter also adheres to hospital protocols, safety standards, and documentation procedures, contributing to smooth hospital operations and a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

Personal

• Safely transports patients to and from hospital areas and departments utilizing proper equipment (wheelchair or cart) appropriate to the patient’s condition and lifting techniques.
• Promptly transports patient to destination and notifies patient arrival to designated individual.
• Perform patient transfers with approved transfer mobility equipment when appropriate.
• Successfully completes hospital-wide orientation, annual hospital competencies and department/unit specific competencies.
• For the safety of our patients and co-workers, St. Luke’s Hospital requires seasonal and job-related vaccinations. This is reviewed regularly during periodic health assessments.
• Patient transporters may transport contrast media to inpatients, ED patients 6000-44
• Performs other duties as assigned

Team

• Maintains cleanliness of equipment and workspace and reports equipment malfunctions in a timely manner.
• Understand requirements for student supervision as outlined in the Student Supervision policy.
• Support the School of Radiology educational process.
• Maintain current knowledge of School of Radiology policies, procedures, and student progress.
• Communicate with School of Radiology faculty on student-related progress and issues.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within three (3) months from date of hire.
• Must complete on the job training. 
• Must possess excellent communication skills.
• Must be able to understand written, verbal, and other sensory stimuli. 
• Must have the ability to analyze written and spoken English. 
• Must be able to cope effectively with stressful situations and time constraints. 
• Must be able to interpret scientific data in a logical and coherent manner. 
• Must be able to independently solve problems and follow detailed written and verbal instruction.
• Must be able to work well with all customers and co-workers. 
• Must demonstrate a cooperative, courteous, and dependable working performance. 
• Must possess high integrity and always maintain confidentiality.
