About this role

Role Purpose

This is a fullstack design-to-build role. You design, implement, and you use AI systems to do both more efficiently than a traditional designer or developer could alone. This role exists to own and elevate the front-end user experience across Princess Polly’s ecommerce sites and apps.

This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, and conversion. You move fast, collaborate closely, and treat AI tooling as a core part of how you work.

Organisational Contribution & Influence

You own the front-end experience in close partnership with the ecommerce team. Working alongside the Ecommerce Director and external dev team, you contribute to roadmap planning, help shape what gets prioritised, and bring both design and technical perspective into those conversations early.

Key Responsibilities

Component 1: UX Design

  • Design and iterate on core ecommerce flows (homepage, PDP, PLP, cart, checkout, navigation) across Shopify sites and apps

  • Use AI tools (including Claude, Claude Code and Claude Design) as a core part of your design and build workflow

  • Maintain mobile first, conversion focused UX that drive measurable engagement and sales

  • Use GA4, Shopify Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and other tools to proactively identify friction, surface opportunities, and measure the impact of UX changes

  • Partner with the contracted CRO agency on A/B test design, hypothesis setting, and readout

  • Ensure design decisions are grounded in data and tied to measurable outcomes

  • Maintain awareness of accessibility standards and implement best in class UX practices

Component 2: Shopify Development + Development Project Management

  • Build and ship Shopify front end updates independently using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid within the shared GitHub repo

  • Translate your own designs into production ready components

  • For larger UX initiatives, own end-to-end project management/collaboration with the external development team including writing clear UX specs, defining acceptance criteria, and running strict QA across all digital touchpoints

Component 3: Promotion Site & App Updates

  • Build and launch marketing pages in Shopify from brief to live as needed

  • Manage ongoing and regular promotional site and app updates, including regular campaign changes

Skills & Experience

Required

  • 3+ years in a hybrid design/build or design engineering role, not pure UX, not pure dev

  • Demonstrated ability to implement your own designs in Shopify: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Liquid

  • Active, hands on use of AI coding and design tools in your day-to-day workflow (Claude Code, Claude Design, etc)

  • Strong portfolio showing ecommerce UX work with measurable outcomes

  • Experience with high-traffic, mobile-first ecommerce sites

  • Proficiency in Figma and the Shopify + Shopify Partner ecosystem

  • Solid understanding of A/B testing, CRO methodology, and analytics platforms (GA4, Clarity, Shopify)

  • GitHub fluency: comfortable committing, branching, and working in a shared repo

Preferred

  • Experience with AI-assisted design tools (Claude, Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, or similar) used to accelerate ideation and iteration

  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue) as applied to Shopify custom storefronts

  • Prior experience in a fast-paced DTC or fashion ecommerce environment

Qualities & Attributes

  • AI-native: you actively experiment with new tools and have already integrated them into how you work

  • Analytically rigorous: you connect UX decisions to commercial outcomes and can articulate the ‘why’ behind every choice

  • Self-led: you manage your own workload, flag blockers early, and don’t need to be chased

  • Clear communicator who builds trust across design, dev, and marketing

  • Calm under pressure, adaptable when priorities shift
