Seeking Experienced Tailor/Seamstress

Tom James Custom Clothing is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Seamstress/Tailor or Master Tailor to join our Southfield, Michigan sales office. We are looking for a talented professional who takes pride in their craft and is committed to delivering exceptional quality alterations and tailoring services for high-end custom clothing. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, works efficiently without compromising quality, and consistently produces outstanding results. This position offers 30–35 hours per week, with compensation based on either an hourly rate or piece-rate structure, depending on experience and qualifications. Position Summary The Tailor is responsible for performing high-quality alterations on luxury men's and women's garments, ensuring all work is completed accurately, professionally, and on schedule. This role requires a strong understanding of garment construction, fabric characteristics, and tailoring techniques, combined with excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities Perform alterations on men's and women's suits, sport coats, blazers, shirts, dresses, trousers, and other garments, including: Shortening or lengthening sleeves Tapering garment sides Lowering collars Taking in or letting out trouser waists Adjusting seat and rise in trousers Shortening or lengthening pant legs Tapering trouser thighs and leg openings Ensure proper garment fit and sizing for clients Maintain a professional demeanor in all client and team interactions Track daily alteration production and maintain accurate records Press finished garments, remove loose threads, and prepare items for client delivery Complete all alterations within established deadlines to meet customer delivery expectations Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment Complete and maintain all required paperwork related to daily assignments Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of tailoring experience in a retail, custom clothing, or customer-service environment Strong knowledge of men's and women's garment construction Ability to perform high-quality alterations by both hand and machine Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality Self-motivated with the ability to work independently Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Working Conditions Standing or sitting for extended periods Fast-paced office environment Compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards Benefits Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) program 401(k) retirement plan We are looking to fill this position immediately.
