About this role

About Migaku

We’re an ambitious team of hardcore language learners: We built what we always wanted and we know what you need, from 0 to fluency. We compressed 100,000 study hours into the world’s best beginner courses, worth years of university classes. We also made flashcards FUN again: Create them from ANY streaming AND web content you enjoy so they’re maximally relevant to your interests and study goals.

With a list of over 300 insanely useful products and features, we keep Migaku constantly evolving through biweekly updates. Built with care by our 10+ product team, this is the underground breakthrough in learning languages, and we’re shooting for Duolingo’s throne.

Role Overview

We're now hiring a talented Senior Product Designer to turn our breakthrough software into an even sleeker and more mature product in the name of helping our efforts to first 10x and then 100x the company’s user base. You'll design features with the wisdom of a user retention artist who knows how to drive user dopamine and understanding while safeguarding maximum product utility by creating immersive and growth-focused designs that protect our brand's ambitious, learner-centric character.

You are or will become an expert at both our power and beginner user base’s language learning needs and you will be exceedingly effective at making the difficult task of learning a language even more fun and engaging through visuality, flow, and information architecture. You also understand the ingredients of modern brand design and are able to evolve our brand when needed. You will passionately engage with our community to understand what they want and build what they need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design the sleekest language learning software on the planet while safeguarding a growth-focussed activation and retention mindset to achieve business goals of the highest order

  • Your designs must have superior usefulness and look and feel premium, even though the goal is scale: Integrating these three qualities is the ultimate goal

  • Superior ability to design UI that feels lightweight and fast instead of heavy and slow

  • Know how to emotionally hook users at the right time with the right piece of visual information to make them advance to the next step in the funnel

  • Constantly monitor our valuable community voices to design based on real-world needs

  • Build hyper-deep understanding of our product and power vs. beginner user needs to design for both

  • You may improve on our brand design to keep it evolving, as product and brand are interconnected

  • Don’t accept compromises on engaging and immersive design when it counts: For the right moments, make our product feel like the user stepped into a Hollywood movie. For other moments, choose to build calm and reduced UI that lets the information sing

  • At the same time, don’t be afraid to test UI concepts with low fidelity designs first to find out what works, then expand on your findings with polished designs

  • Masterful use of typography to create joyful reading experiences when the UI gets dense

  • Exquisitely tuned balance of instincts and data-driven insights instead of relying too heavily on either

  • Collaborate and lead internal and external design resources, e.g. illustrators, to support your process

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Track record of designing high-engagement and lightweight software of high critical acclaim is required

  • Understanding the ingredients of impactful copywriting is required

  • Understanding the ingredients of effective branding is a big plus

  • Hardcore language learning experience is a big plus

  • Ability to scout top talent wherever they are, e.g. designers and illustrators on X or Instagram, and onboard them onto our team either part-time or full-time is a big plus

Why Join Us

  • We will provide you with all the tools and opportunities necessary to make a direct, meaningful and long-lasting impact on the legacy of our company and the global language learning landscape as a whole

  • You will be part of a high-trust community that encourages risk-taking, experimentation and innovation

  • You will be working alongside ambitious executors and creatives from a wide range of backgrounds and disciplines
