About this role

Role

  • Engage in both independent and collaborative research in the field of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics, focusing on quantum information applications.

    • Develop scalable architectures for neutral-atom Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) with cavity Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) atom-light interfaces, towards distributed quantum computing and quantum communications. This involves close collaboration with NanoQT’s FTQC/Quantum Information team (including high-rate QEC specialists).

    • Develop and/or optimize protocols for fast and high-fidelity neutral-atom qubit operations, both in free space and in optical cavities.

    • Propose novel applications of neutral atom and cavity QED systems for quantum communications, quantum sensing, analog quantum simulations, and other emerging quantum technologies.

  • Publish results in peer-reviewed academic journals.

  • Contribute to the design and optimization of nanofiber cavity QED and free-space neutral atom hardware, working closely with NanoQT’s hardware team (cold-atom and cavity QED experimentalists).

Qualifications

  • Must have PhD before commencing the role.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in theoretical research, particularly focused on Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) systems for quantum information applications, substantiated by publication history.

  • Strong programming and code/data organization skills for efficient and reproducible numerical simulations.

  • Proficient in verbal and written English communication (proficiency in Japanese is not mandatory).

  • Ability to work cohesively in an interdisciplinary team and adjust to a rapidly evolving environment.

Desired Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of cavity QED and/or neutral atoms for quantum information applications.

  • Basic knowledge in fault-tolerant quantum computing and quantum communication.

  • Leading role in collaborative research projects with experimentalists.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary.
