Session Physician

POSITION SUMMARY Session physicians perform medical and surgical abortion procedures, LARC procedures, other types of gynecologic procedures, and provide medical consultation for staff during clinic hours.   ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Direct Clinical Care (85%): Provides medical care which may include medication abortion provision, LARC placement and removal, contraceptive counseling and provision, STI counseling and treatment, colposcopy and/or LEEP provision (depending on prior experience), and surgical abortion services (to 19+6 weeks’ gestation) in compliance with PPGNY’s Medical Standards and Guidelines.   Clinical Consultation and Training (10%): Provides clinical consultation to advance practice physicians.   Administrative (5%): · Participates in Center chart audit procedures and reviews laboratory and diagnostic reports as appropriate. · Reports to the Regional Associate Medical Director on all medical complications and other matters as needed. · Participates in PPGNY’s quality management activities, including Debriefings and Root Cause Analyses, as required. · Ensures compliance with PPGNY’s and regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines. · Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.   CORE COMPETENCIES · A demonstrated commitment to PPGNY’s mission related to bodily autonomy, health equity, and gender and racial justice · Demonstrated commitment to learning about and enhancing practices related to racial equity and its impact on healthcare systems. · Strong relationship building and communication skills, including an ability to work and build trust across cultural differences related to related to race, class, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin or ability; and to reflect on one’s personal identity with humility · Ability to manage and mentor a culturally diverse team, including creating and sustaining an organizational culture that fosters inclusiveness and equity, and providing positive and developmental feedback and accountability related to practices including but not limited to equity · Ability to provide compassionate, non-judgmental and culturally responsive care across race, class, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, national origin or ability; and demonstrates deep sense of accountability to patient experience   REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES Interpersonal: · Ability to remain focused and calm in stressful situations · Superior oral and written communication skills · Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other members of the health care team · Willingness to function as a role model Technical · Proficiency with surgical abortion, LARC placement and removal and related skills · Comfort with electronic health records Subject Matter Knowledge · Strong knowledge of Abortion care and evaluation · Thorough knowledge of surgical complications Work Habits/Attributes: · Must be able to work in a busy clinical environment. · Demonstrated ability to manage health-related emergency conditions including independent decision making. · Ability to exercise discretion in the handling of confidential information · Ability to demonstrate and document evidence-based clinical judgment   REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education Related Capability Requirements: · Requires successful completion of coursework culminating in certification either as Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and active status for certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or the American Board of Family Medicine. · Must be licensed to practice in New York State. Experience Related Capability Requirements: · Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with surgical abortion provision. · Expertise in sexual and reproductive health care is required. · Requires basic computer/EMR proficiency. Licensures/Certifications: · Current NYS Physician License and Registration. · Nexplanon certification. Current ACLS certification.
