Job Description

Position Summary:

The Chemist I performs testing activities directed by Department Manager/Supervisor in accordance with all applicable company and regulatory guidelines to ensure that quoted turnaround times are met in support of monograph testing, unknown/failure analysis and other areas.

Authority:

The Chemist I receives sufficient authority from, and is accountable to, the Department Manager/Supervisor, or appointed designate, for the successful completion of assigned duties and responsibilities and has the authority to take action necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position and to identify the occurrence of departures from the quality system or from the procedures for performing tests and/or calibrations, so long as such action does not deviate from established company guidelines, is consistent with sound technical and business judgment, and follows the practices of the laboratory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform testing activities as directed by Department Supervisor in accordance with all applicable company and regulatory guidelines.
  2. Monitor backlog and plan testing schedule to ensure quoted turnaround times are met.
  3. Wet chemistry techniques utilized will include gravimetry, titrimetry, colorimetry and others as needed.
  4. Instrumentation utilized may include HPLC, GC, ICP, ICP-MS, IC, and others as needed.
  5. Maintain neat and accurate records.
  6. Enter testing data into LIMS and monitor for QC failures.
  7. Review and approve laboratory analytical data.
  8. Monitor and record environmental conditions in laboratory.  Alert management of any out of tolerance findings.
  9. Perform calibrations/checks of laboratory equipment.
  10. Maintain glassware inventory for laboratory use.
  11. Maintain chemical/reagent traceability.
  12. Assist with maintenance of chemical/supply inventory.
  13. Support the maintenance of controlled documents related to laboratory operations/testing through editing of documents and/or reviewing revisions.
  14. Support quality system improvements through completion of Corrective and Preventive Action forms, documenting Non-Conformances and assisting with internal audit findings as assigned by Environmental Lab Supervisor or Monograph Supervisor.
  15. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  16. Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • ‌B.S. in Chemistry or related field
  • Experience with ICP, HPLC, GC, IC, DA, BOD and wet chemistry techniques preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025, DEA, EPA, FDA and related guidance.
