Job Description

Within the Energy team, as a Project Manager:

 

Your responsibilities

  • Manage and provide leadership for assigned projects in transmission and distribution substations in regarding budget, schedule, scope, quality, safety, construction and contract performance;
  •  Gather resources to meet the engineering and construction objectives, ensure and elaborate project design, check & approve designs, develop strategic sequencing, achieve milestone schedules, project-milestone cost tracking and ensure deliverables;
  • Arrange project meetings to manage different phases of the project, identify problems, provide updates, and prepare minutes of meetings;
  • Define project objectives, establish policies, procedures, work methods and performance standards as per company operational and safety policies and contract specifications;
  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients, project teams, external consultants, regulatory bodies, suppliers, sub-contractors and local communities;
  • Plan, prepare, monitor and manage engineering and construction schedules and milestones;
  • Coordinate the development of detailed cost estimates, schedules and associated project RFP’s, RFQ’s, contracts, etc.;
  • Coordinate with clients, general contractors, and attend site visits as required during project life cycle;
  • Prepare equipment specifications, sub-contract documents, vendor approval and bid evaluations, monitor and process contract change notices, manage RFIs etc.;
  • Cross-check and follow up on project invoicing, monthly forecasting, milestone payments and project closeouts;
  • Conduct follow-up or “lessons learned” meetings and initiate changes to minimize the impact on future projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical engineering, Project Management, High Voltage Substation Design and Construction experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering, project management and construction management related to high-voltage substation experience (Field experience with construction and contract management is a must);
  • Demonstrated competencies in the areas of: planning and organization, decision making, conducting meetings, excellent communication skills (written and verbal), critical thinking and problem-solving skills, risk and change management, team work, influencing and leading, delegating and adaptability, independence;
  • Experience with MS Excel and MS Project;
  • Knowledge of High Voltage substation requirements and the associated standards related to Ontario, Canada;
  • PMP Certification and/or registered P.Eng in Ontario (an asset).
