Job Description

The Department of Health Care Policy (HCP) is a dynamic, data-driven research environment that brings together economists, statisticians, physicians and health services researchers focused on improving health and health care delivery through comprehensive policy research and education.

Under the direction of Prof. Leila Agha, the Research Assistant (RA) will help coordinate the daily operations of research related to applied microeconomics focusing on health care, innovation, and Medicare policy. Project topics may include studying the variation in diagnostic efficiency across hospitals, and studying geographic variation in maternal health outcomes. 

The research assistant will assist with literature reviews, data cleaning, statistical analysis, and research management, in close collaboration with faculty mentors and other members of the research team.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • One or more years of related research experience. Higher education may count towards years of experience.  
  • Applicants should have proficiency in using statistical software such as STATA, R, and/or SAS.


Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • A background in statistical programming (competency in STATA, R or SAS) and a basic understanding of econometrics or statistics is strongly encouraged.
  • BA or BS, preferably in the field of specific research study, with a preference for coursework in a social science field (e.g. economics, statistics, or public policy with a quantitative focus).
  • Interest or experience in health care research.
  • Must be proficient with most computer software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Independent judgement, patience, and excellent communication skills are required to respond efficiently to varied/complex tasks.
  • Organization and attention to detail are essential.
  • Ability to work with a team is required.
  • Must be able to maintain a calm and cooperative attitude during periods of increased staff activity.

Additional Information

  • Term: This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. 
  • Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Work Format Details

This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
