What’s the Opportunity? 

Anchor QEA is seeking a
regular full-time Environmental Field Lead (non-exempt, salaried) to support active
projects, lead field investigations, and help grow our presence in the Great Lakes. This position will require national travel. The successful candidate will be able to work alongside others in a fast-paced environment and be enthusiastic about their work with a strong commitment to health and safety and technical excellence. 

 



Current Responsibilities:
 

Below is a summary of responsibilities that can currently be anticipated: 

  • Lead site investigation teams including environmental sample collection (soil, sediment, surface water,
    groundwater, porewater, and biota) and vertical hydraulic gradient device deployment primarily in the Great Lakes Area (Michigan and Wisconsin) as well as other areas throughout the Great Lakes. However, travel outside the Great Lakes to support projects across the US will be needed.
     
  • Maintain DOT driving certification and operate company vehicles (pickup trucks, vans, box trucks) including trailering boats and other small utility trailers 
  • Perform field data collection using digital field technologies (tablets, GPS, specialized monitoring equipment) 
  • Trailer and operate a variety of vessels including small jon boats, skiffs, and pontoon boats as necessary to collect field data. 
  • Oversee subcontractors to collect field data from a variety of different equipment (SPT, CPT, Geoprobe, sonic, amphibious equipment) 
  • Conduct construction monitoring activities, including oversight, air monitoring, water quality monitoring, and environmental sample collection (in-water and on land) 
  • Follow Anchor QEA policies and procedures including, but not limited to, environmental health and safety, quality assurance, and quality control 
  • Interact with project managers and agency staff (daily reporting, communicate field deviations, project status updates) 
  • Perform general equipment management and maintenance duties 
  • Work in an office environment performing field data management, writing data summaries, and other tasks using Microsoft Office programs 
  • Travel away from home office is required
    up to 70% of the time.
     

 



What Are We Looking For?  

Ideal candidates will have the following: 

  • Associate’s degree and minimum of 5-7 years of related fieldwork experience or a bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of related experience 
  • The ability to work closely with other technical specialists as part of a larger project team 
  • The ability to lead field crews numbering from 2-7 staff, consisting of field technicians and scientists, as well as subcontractors, as needed, to execute field programs 
  • Familiarity with operation of sediment sampling equipment, such as vibracore and/or grab samplers. 
  • Experience maintaining a fleet of vessels and equipment 
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification 
  • First Aid and CPR training 
  • Small vessel experience and/or boaters certification 
  • Clean driving record 
  • Drug and alcohol screening, along with a background check, may be required 

 



Desired, but not required, skills  

  • Experience operating
    unmanned aerial vehicles, including FAA Part 107 Commercial Remote Pilot certification 
     
  • Experience conducting hydrographic surveys, including NSPS–THSOA Certified Hydrographer credentials 
  • Project management experience, including costing, planning, managing, and executing environmental field programs 
  • Familiarity with digital field technologies, such as GPS, field data-collection tablets, DroneDeploy software, and HYPACK.
