Get to Know the Team

The Streaming Data team (a.k.a. "Coban") strives to ensure seamless and secure real-time access to the continuous events or "streams", serving as Grab's unified, common access pattern for real-time data. We build the infrastructure and platform for writing, consuming real-time data, and provide a cost-effective, managed "NoOps" service for all product teams to leverage. We work with our sister teams in DataTech to provide integrated data platforms that ensure everyday opportunities with big data innovation.

Get to Know the Role

Our Lead Engineers are expected to lead mid to large sized projects across a Tech Family (or vertical) and to be a technical mentor and go-to person in a team of 3 to 5 senior engineers. As a Lead Software Engineer, your role calls for being able to work across our stack, from Flink and Kafka to AWS cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, observability and SRE, not only in practical hands-on building of systems and code, but also driving higher-level discussions around architecture and design. You will work onsite at Grab Vietnam office, either CMC Creative Space, D7 (HCMC) or PVI Building (Hanoi) and report to Senior Data Engineering Manager, who is based in Singapore.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Work with a team of cross functional engineers to make Stream Processing easy, reliable, efficient and secure across Grab, through self-served capabilities baked in our platform.
• Create the abstractions, modules and libraries to lower the barrier of entry to Stream Processing in Grab and shift the maintenance and security toil away from our users.
• Improve the automation and self-served capabilities that allow our small team to support 1000+ Stream Processing applications in Grab.
• Weigh in on design questions around platformization, infrastructure, observability and security, and work with (and build over the platforms provided by) our infrastructure team.
• Drive the adoption of Stream Processing across Grab, by evangelizing for our platform and products, and by directly helping our internal users develop the next game-changing real-time application for Grab.
• Be responsible for the definition and evolution of platform availability and reliability SLAs (dashboards, compliance), and participate in and evolve on-call and incident response procedures for the team.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• 7+ years leading teams or projects in software engineering, data engineering, or information security disciplines.
• Worked and operated Stream Processing pipelines in production (Flink or Spark Streaming).
• Hands-on competencies with Kafka and programming experience with Scala or Java. (This role does involve being able to be in the trenches!).
• You are excited to learn and apply new technologies.

The nice-to-haves:

• Experience with Kafka Connect, Kubernetes, Go, Gitlab CI, AWS, Terraform.
• Experience with a data warehouse like Spark
