Who we are:

Canadian Mental Health Association Durham is an integrated community mental health and primary care hub that has been providing mental health services to Durham Region for over 60 years.

 

During that time, it has evolved to provide a broad range of services to individuals and their families experiencing mental health challenges, from information and education to case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, housing and primary healthcare. These services are provided through inter-professional teams focused on providing clinically based services that, in addition to dealing with client mental health issues, address social determinants of health using the recovery model.


Responsibilities 
Participates as a member of a high performance, multi-service team that supports mental health clients within a        variety of community settings 
Responsible for scheduling the day-to-day activities within ACT 
Assists with ensuring activities are planned, delivered and evaluated in accordance with professional standards,        good operating principles, best practices and legislative requirements 
Assists with preparing work plans that align with the organization’s goals and objectives 
Assists with directing staff providing support and guidance to facilitate: medication management, psychiatric              rehabilitation, activities of daily living, goal planning, clinical assessments, community resources etc. 
Assists with coordinating the client admission, treatment and discharge process 
Assists with supervision, input and leadership of staff 
Participates in interview teams, hiring and orientation of new employees 
Assists with identifying the training and development needs of staff, as required 
Assists with ensuring all accreditation and accountability requirements are met 
Assists with overseeing staff coverage to meet client care needs 
Assists with auditing program client files to ensure accuracy and adherence to CMHA Durham policy and                    procedure 
Creates and maintains a positive work environment where all employees can maximize their job satisfaction and        productivity 
Assists with the development and implementation of ACT policies and procedures 
Facilitates team meetings focusing on business and operational issues as required 
Provides on-call crisis intervention during night/weekend hours and acts as back up to evening and weekend staff,    as required 
Performs other tasks as assigned by management    


Requirements        
Post-secondary education in a related area of study (i.e., mental health, social sciences or human services) and a    minimum of five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience 
Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, social service benefits and related                    legislation in Ontario 
Knowledge of forensic mental health system and the Ontario Review Board process would be an asset 
Ability to provide staff supervision and leadership 
Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills 
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, community partners and represent the agency in    a professional manner at all times 
Ability to acquire and utilize community resources effectively to meet client’s needs 
Flexibility to adapt to change 
Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds 
Ability to work independently and in a dynamic team environment 
Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their effects 
Ability to think critically and creatively 
Ability to manage crisis situations 
Valid Ontario Driver’s license, access to a dependable vehicle in safe working order and appropriate insurance          coverage 
Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook), as well as the internet
