About this role
Abel Design Group is seeking an Interior Designer/Project Manager to join its Austin office. The ideal candidate will excel in innovative design solutions and be committed to design excellence. The candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to collaborate and lead a team, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Guide team in establishing project concept and aesthetics
- Lead design vision from concept through construction, ensuring consistency and quality
- Implement all phases of projects, including client meetings, field verification, drawing production, material and furniture selection, and construction administration
- Coordinate multiple projects concurrently
- Work with consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives
- Oversee design documentation to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with design intent
- Manage client expectations regarding scope, budget, and schedule
- Maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships
- Provide senior-level design input, problem-solving, and creative direction across project teams
- Ensure that project documentation and contracts meet standards
- Track and ensure project profitability
- Participate in business development and marketing efforts
- Foster and maintain a positive, collaborative working relationship with team members
- Recruit and mentor staff
- Mentor designers through design reviews, redlines, and feedback to elevate team performance
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of relevant architecture or design experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design
- Must be a Registered Interior Designer or a Registered Architect with current license
- If Registered Architect, NCARB and AIA registration preferred
- Proficiency in Revit preferred
- Management experience in all phases of projects through post-occupancy
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management skills
- Advanced knowledge of building materials, construction, and building codes, including ADA
