The Discovery Neuroscience In Vivo Pharmacology group in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Senior Scientist to join a dynamic team supporting target identification, validation, and drug transport facilitation over brain barriers. The successful candidate will drive scientific innovation, has experience making tangible contributions to the discovery pipeline, and has people and project management experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design and implementation of in vivo testing of multispecific biologics, small molecules, and siRNAs to support projects in the areas of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
  • Serve as an in vivo representative in cross-functional teams with Discovery Biotherapeutics, DMPK, and Development Sciences colleagues, providing project updates, analysis, and strategic advice
  • Proactively translate department/project team scientific questions into well-designed experiments, utilizing internal and external resources 
  • Identify and solve technical problems independently, implement new assays and workflows, conceive and implement innovative research ideas
  • Analyze and interpret multidisciplinary data to generate actionable conclusions and guide future experimental directions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners at various AbbVie sites to advance candidates through discovery milestones
  • Work independently and maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory, ensuring efficiency and scientific rigor
  • Mentor / matrix manage junior scientists, and be accountable for the effective performance of the team
  • Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports
  • Uphold impeccable research-related & corporate compliance standards 
  • May author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and typically, 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree and typically 10 years of experience, PhD and typically 4 years of experience.
  • Background in receptor and / or transporter biology and targeted delivery
  • Background in brain barriers biology
  • Experience with in vivo models of neurodegeneration, particularly with models of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease
  • Experience in assay development for target identification and validation, mechanism of action studies, biodistribution and biomarker analysis. Proven ability to troubleshoot and refine assays and workflows
  • Proven track record in characterizing complex biotherapeutics in vivo (biologics, small molecules, siRNA)
  • Proven track record of working in multidisciplinary in vivo pharmacology teams, demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment
  • Experience managing direct reports, including providing performance evaluations and development opportunities
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong data analysis and critical thinking skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Goal-oriented and highly self-motivated team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience contributing to technical reports and publications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience operating effectively in a matrixed, fast-paced discovery organization
  • Experience in managing external collaborations
  • Experience with ex vivo readouts including immunohistochemistry and biochemistry (e.g., ELISA, WB, qPCR, ddPCR). Experience with image analysis
  • Familiarity with CNS-relevant biology and genetic medicine applications

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
