About this role

The Haverford Township Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Bus Driver to transport campers to and from field trips and support our after-care program by providing transportation to the Community Recreation & Environmental Center (CREC). This part-time, seasonal position averages 10–15 hours per week, depending on field trip schedules and travel distances.

 

The selected candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of a township bus, including conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, ensuring compliance with all transportation safety regulations, and maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle interior. The ideal candidate must hold a valid CDL license with the following endorsements: Air Brakes, Passenger, and School Bus.

Qualifications:

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Has a valid Class B or Class C CDL with the following endorsements:

o   Passenger (P) Endorsement: Required to transport passengers

o   School Bus (S) Endorsement: Required to operate a school bus

o   Air Brake Endorsement      


Successful completion of pre-employment screenings including:

o    PA child abuse clearance

o    PA criminal background check

o    FBI fingerprint clearance

o    Drug/alcohol screening


·         Prior experience driving a school bus

·         Ability to meet physical/sensory demands of job

·         Clear Driving Record: Has maintained a clean driving record with no serious traffic violations

·         Good interpersonal and communication skills

Essential Functions:

·         Driving our Extended Care Program (ECP) campers and staff to and from various field trips

·         Safely operate a school bus along designated routes

·         Ensure students board and exit the bus safely

·         Maintain order and enforce safety regulations on the bus

·         Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle

·         Follow traffic laws and school district policies

·         Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle interior.

Work Environment:

The daily environment involves transporting children of various ages. Work occasionally involves responding to angry, frustrated or upset individuals. Position involves a great deal of driving with some bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching, twisting and lifting.
