Position Summary:

The Unit Supervisor provides leadership that embodies Everstand core values and works to maintain a Trauma Responsive Environment. The Unit Supervisor is versed in Everstand’s Theory of Change and implements Everstand policies and procedures to support a safe and nurturing treatment environment. The Unit Supervisor effectively works as a leader on the interdisciplinary team and provides coaching and support to Youth Care Professionals.


Essential Functions:

  • Approaches concerns, challenges, and opportunities with empathy, attention to detail, active listening, and curiosity.

  • Contributes to the prevention and management of challenging behaviors by implementing the Everstand’s behavior management and therapeutic crisis intervention techniques.
  • Promotes effective communication through the timely submission of documentation and weekly team meetings.
  • Serve on the Interdisciplinary Care Team for each youth served and working collaboratively with various internal and external partners.
  • Provides transportation for residents as required.
  • On a rotating basis, provides effective campus supervision by fulfilling campus supervisory responsibilities at least once per week; this can include overnight and/or weekend shifts.
  • Develop daily individualized structure that is tailored to meet the unique needs of a high acuity population, consistent with the age and level of functioning of each resident.
  • Promote life skills programming to assist youth towards stabilization and self-regulation as a primary outcome.
  • Incorporate a menu of evidence supported group modalities aimed at teaching youth the relational, stress tolerance and impulse control skills needed to be successful in a lesser restrictive environment will be embedded into the daily programming for the unit.
  • Ensures that the staff to resident ratio is adequate and consistent with Everstand policy and unit needs. Provide coverage / be part of ratio as necessary to maintain the stated ratio
  • Ensures accurate medication administration, documentation, and safe storage of medication in accordance with the guidelines of the State of Maryland’s Medication Administration.
  • Provides support and accountability to Youth Care Professionals through modeling and coaching, frequent guidance sessions and progressive discipline as needed.
  • Obtain and maintain certification as a “user” in Everstand’s electronic health record software system.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Provides effective supervision to Youth Care Professionals to ensure that childcare direct care services are consistently provided based upon the Everstand’s treatment philosophy, mission, practices and policies.


Work Environment:

This job operates both in a treatment environment, as well as a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, and filing cabinets.

Like being at a residential and school living environment, there may be times you experience conditions in which challenging behavior can be exhibited from our youth to include but not limited to, physical agitation, physical violence and/or emotion outburst.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Due to the nature of the populations served, there is a physical component to behavioral interventions that requires direct care roles to be able to safely perform physical restraints, when necessary, as outlined and trained via Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and/or Safe Crisis Management. 


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are dependent on the operational need and confirmed by the program supervisor.   Each Supervisor is expected to work a late evening shift.  This position requires flexible work hours to include evening and weekend hours.  This position is eligible for flex schedule, per Everstand Policy and Procedures.  This position is essential for inclement weather events. 


Travel

Travel, if needed, is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.


 Required Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree in a related field with 1 year of supervisory or management experience in a related field


Preferred Education and Experience

A Master’s degree in a related field with 2 year of supervisory or management experience in a related field

One year experience in providing direct services to children/youth and families


Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Able to learn and effectively utilize different technology platforms.
  • Excellent computer use knowledge with Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 365 products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proven effective time management, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to keep an electronic calendar (Outlook)
  • Ability to pass RCYCP certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass TCI certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass CPR/First aid certification both at employee orientation and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to demonstrate the possession of a valid driver’s license prior to employment and ability to maintain the license and operate a motor vehicle thereafter.
  • Ability to pass CPS/UII background check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass a Tuberculosis Screening both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. 
  • Ability to pass a work-readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass a Federal and State Fingerprinting Background Check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen via urinalysis both prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of unit systems, and effectively oversees their completion.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of health and safety standards through weekly on-site inspections.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the various programs at the Everstand in order to adequately orient staff and residents to the program.
  • Demonstrates the ability to receive, transmit, store and retrieve information as evidenced through written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of daily routines and the need for consistency within the unit.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to complete accurate bi-weekly timesheets.
  • Demonstrates the ability to complete an accurate staff schedule, while minimizing and/or eliminating overtime.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain an accurate account of all unit finances.
