Job Summary

The primary role for the lifeguard position at Grand Turk Cruise Center is to ensure the safety of visitors to our aquatic facilities. The lifeguard will explain safety rules to patrons, warn them about unsafe situations, and enforce safety policies. Candidates will need to assess situations swiftly and make decisions regarding the safety of swimmers as well as perform various rescue skills with a team of lifeguards.  


Job Requirements

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment practical skills test in the water.
  • Ability to work on weekends and evenings.
  • Swimming skills and comfort in all kinds of water conditions.
  • Ability to evaluate and judge the changing dynamics of people taking part in aquatic activities to immediately determine their strengths and weaknesses, as well as the threats to their safety.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety policies, on-site protocols and operational procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of techniques and methods for providing medical services in the event of an emergency.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to and may be amended from time to time:

  • Monitors the area of surveillance activities to make sure that patrons are safe and behaving according to the rules
  • Acts in emergency situations and provide rescue, first aid AED and CPR assistance up to his or her training level until medical personnel arrive.
  • Enforces and adheres to Beach and Pool Rules and Regulations consistently and fairly.
  • Follows Emergency Action Plan and Procedures established in the event of an emergency.
  • Inspects zones of responsibility for unsafe conditions and cleanliness to prevent accidents and reports any hazards to the Supervisor.
  • Fills out reports for incidents or other records for reference.
  • Completes paperwork required before shift starts.
  • Maintain order in the pool, at the beach and adjoining areas.
  • Responsible for the availability and safekeeping of emergency equipment (rescue tubes, backboard, signs and other equipment).
  • Provides general information on pool operation to patrons.
  • Assists in Line Handling for docking ships as needed.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Security and Maintenance Manager
  • Conforms to the policies and procedures established by Grand Turk Cruise Center.
  • Provide superior customer service and represent the Nation of Turks and Caicos Islands in a manner which upholds the highest standards.
  • Any other business related tasks as directed or requested by the employer from time to time.

 Other responsibilities:

  • Stays fit to perform job adequately which requires swimming endurance and strength.
  • Maintains a professional appearance.
  • Interacts politely with facility patrons and acts as a role model for young children.
  • Attends all meetings and training sessions for the GTCC facility staff.


    Language Requirements

    • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with employees and guests
    • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers and co-workers.

    Physical Requirements:

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • All island employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
