Job Description

This PhD project offers you a unique opportunity to pioneer a novel protein assay for our innovative Vivalytic point-of-care platform. Here, you will not only help shape the next generation of medical technologies but also make a direct contribution to improving patient care.

  • You will begin your work with an in-depth analysis of the current state of research and lay the strategic foundation for the project by comprehensively researching and evaluating diverse assay technologies, from innovative recognition molecules to advanced coupling and detection strategies.
  • As the core of your dissertation, you will practically implement these concepts by developing, building, optimizing, and validating a complete, automated assay workflow on our microfluidic system, mastering the interplay of biochemistry, surface chemistry, and system integration.
  • Furthermore, you will actively collaborate with our highly interdisciplinary team throughout the entire project and regularly present your research findings to internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Education: excellent master's degree (or equivalent) in Technical Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related life sciences field
  • Experience and Know-how: a broad theoretical background and practical experience in biochemistry and molecular biology with a strong focus on protein biochemistry and immunoassays (e.g., ELISA); ideally, expertise in antibody (mimetic) engineering, microfluidic/lab-on-a-chip systems, and related protein coupling techniques
  • Personality and Working Practice: you are able to combine analytical thinking with creative solution approaches while proceeding in a structured, proactive, and hands-on manner; you bring a high degree of independence and personal drive, but also enjoy working collaboratively and with an open mind in a team
  • Enthusiasm: you are driven by scientific curiosity and have the ambition to solve complex challenges; you enjoy working with experts from various disciplines and want to help shape innovative, practice-relevant technologies.
  • Languages: very good written and spoken German and English skills
