Job Description

Are you a skilled negotiator who is passionate about building strong supplier relationships and shaping the future of procurement? Do you want to be at the forefront of a major business transformation? If so, we want you on our team!

We are looking for a commercially sharp and forward-thinking Project Buyer to be a driving force in our procurement team.

This is a pivotal role that goes beyond traditional purchasing. You will be empowered to secure advantageous terms and build a high-performing supplier network for our complex, bespoke projects. More importantly, you will be a key player in our purchasing digitalisation drive, helping to lead the charge in modernising our Engineer-to-Order (ETO) purchasing process into a modern, data-driven operation.

What You'll Achieve

Strategic Sourcing & Commercial Excellence:

  • Lead high-impact price negotiations and renegotiate offers to generate significant cost savings.
  • Negotiate comprehensive agreements covering everything from payment terms and Incoterms to volume rebates and quality assurance.
  • Identify, assess, and onboard new suppliers who align with our technical and digital ambitions.
  • Conduct rigorous supplier assessments for performance, quality, and delivery, leveraging data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform supplier audits and visits to proactively resolve issues and strengthen partnerships.

Digital Transformation of Engineer-to-Order (ETO) Purchasing:

  • Champion the digitalisation of our ETO process, identifying opportunities to move from traditional methods to modern, data-driven workflows.
  • Analyse the current end-to-end quotation and procurement process for bespoke engineered parts, and help implement more efficient, automated solutions.
  • Act as a key user and advocate for new e-procurement platforms, supplier portals, and data analytics tools.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Sales to ensure our digital tools streamline communication and reduce time-to-market for new projects.

Operational & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Manage the operational procurement process within our SAP system, ensuring data accuracy and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Serve as the crucial commercial link between our suppliers and internal project teams.
  • Maintain excellent communication channels with all departments to ensure seamless project execution.

Who You Are

  • A Skilled Negotiator: You have a proven ability to secure favourable outcomes and a passion for commercial excellence.
  • A Moderniser: You are tech-savvy, excited by change, and passionate about using technology to improve complex processes.
  • Customer-Focused: You are proactive and responsive, with a dedication to serving both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly Organised: You can manage multiple complex projects with exceptional attention to detail.
  • A Team Player: You communicate effectively and thrive on collaborating with others to achieve shared goals.

Qualifications

Qualified & Experienced:

  • MCIPS qualification or equivalent business experience is desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced with an ERP system (e.g., SAP).
  • Experience in an Engineer-to-Order (ETO) or project-based manufacturing environment is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with modern e-procurement platforms or experience in a purchasing digitalisation project is a strong plus.
  • Experience working with Engineering drawings is desirable.
