Justice for Montanans (JFM) AmeriCorps members empower low- to moderate-income Montanans to advocate for their legal rights and increase access to justice. Montana Legal Services Association partners with the Self-Help Program of the Montana Supreme Court Office of the Court Administrator, DCI’s Office of Child and Family Ombudsman, Legal Services Developer Aging Services, Montana Innocence Project, and the State Office of the Public Defender. The JFM AmeriCorps Project places 19 members directly in local Montana communities to help provide and expand intake and outreach, legal information, and referral services for Montana's low to moderate income residents seeking civil legal assistance.

All Members will uphold the goals of the Justice for Montanans Program by participating in the following activities:


  1. Increasing access to justice for low to moderate income Montanans.
  2. Expanding access for low to moderate income Montanans to civil legal resources.
  3. Empowering low to moderate income Montanans to uphold their legal rights.
  4. Connecting low to moderate income Montanans with the legal resources they need.
  5. Recruiting volunteers to expand the legal services available to low and moderate income Montanans.


In addition, all Justice for Montanans Members will:


  1. Report qualitative and quantitative data as directed by the Justice for Montanans Project, and their host site.
  2. Report the number of hours served through the timely submission of their bi-weekly timesheets.
  3. Provide assistance with community outreach and other activities targeted toward improving access to justice for low income Montanans, as directed by the Justice for Montanans Project, their host site and project partner organizations.
  4. Participate in training and professional development as requested by the Justice for Montanans Project and their host site. Training may account for no more than 20% of the Member’s total service hours.


All members must agree to a National Service Criminal History Check as defined by AmeriCorps regulations in effect at the time service begins.
