Job Description

Lecturer – IT – Software Development 
Location: Mt Albert, Auckland   
Full-time | Permanent | On-site 

 

About the role: 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Lecturer to lead and inspire students in our Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) programme. Specifically, we are looking for a versatile educator with expertise in Software Development. This role is an exciting opportunity to inspire and prepare students for successful careers in the IT industry. 

Key Responsibilities will include: 

  • Deliver engaging and high-quality lectures, tutorials, and workshops. 

  • Design, develop, and update course materials to align with industry trends and academic standards. 

  • Mentor students in Software Development. 

  • Assess student progress through assignments, projects, and examinations. 

  • Collaborate with faculty and industry experts to enhance learning outcomes. 

  • Stay abreast of developments in Software Development – including topics related to Programming (Python/Java); Web Development; Software Engineering; Databases; DevOps fundamentals and emerging trends. 

  • Contribute to faculty research, programme reviews, and curriculum development. 

Qualifications

About you: 

Our undergraduate programmes constantly seek to achieve a balance between ‘academic excellence’ and ‘industry experience and best practice’.  

Preference will be given to applicants who have subject knowledge across a range of specialisations. Preference will also be given to those with industry experience, industry accreditation or similar status, and those who have undertaken applied research. 

Required experience/skills: 

  • Currently hold at a minimum a Master's degree in IT or related field 

  • Proven experience in Tertiary teaching Software Development/Engineering.  

  • Strong understand of programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, Full stack web development (MERN/MEAN, Next.js, .NET Full stack, Python-based or AI integration) 

  • Certifications desirable: i.e. Microsoft Certified Azure Developer Associate, AWS Certified Developer, AWS certified DevOps Engineer, Docker Certified Associate, Github Certifications, Certified Scrum Master, Project Management Institute Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), TOGAF Enterprise Architecture, Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP), Azure Fundamentals. 

  • Strong knowledge of current trends and practices in the software development field 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively teach and engage diverse, multicultural cohorts. 

Our ideal superstar candidate will have: 

· PhD in a relevant field, or currently studying towards one 
· Established academic publishing track record 
· Demonstrated success in grant writing and funding applications 
· Postgraduate supervision experience 
· Strong industry experience and engagement in relevant field
