About this role

ABOUT US

Our mission at Avelios is to unlock clinical data to power seamless healthcare operations for better patient care. To do so, we have built a modular software platform that digitizes and optimizes workflows in hospitals with cutting-edge technology in a user-friendly way. With our software, we enable hospitals, doctors & nurses to provide their patients with the best possible care.
We are growing fast and want to keep expanding our team and business to fundamentally digitize healthcare for the better. We appreciate different backgrounds and see diversity as one of our strengths.

THE TEAM AND ROLE

To continue shaping the future of healthcare, we are looking for a (Senior) Product-Designer (all genders) to join our product team as a key contributor. In this role, you will be at the intersection of design, medicine, and technology: working hand-in-hand with product managers, engineers, and our subject-matter expert team of experienced doctors to design intuitive and user-centered solutions for hospitals.

Your work will span from prototyping, workflow optimization, and early UX research to high-fidelity UI design. You will also collaborate closely with engineering to ensure design quality and technical feasibility, engage in trade-off discussions, and help evolve our design system, including maintaining component consistency and working together on our Storybook implementation.

You will have the chance to pioneer UX research practices, protocols, and approaches within our team, helping us build a strong design culture while directly shaping how healthcare is delivered across Germany and beyond. Occasional travel to hospitals for on-site research will give you firsthand insight into user needs and workflows.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • User-Centered Product Design: Ability to design user-centric solutions that balance user needs, medical requirements, technical feasibility, and business goals

  • Prototyping & Interaction Design: Ability to create Figma prototypes, intuitive user flows, and high-fidelity screens to communicate, validate, and refine ideas

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Ability to collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and medical professionals to iterate and deliver high-quality software experiences

  • Engineering Collaboration & System Thinking: Ability to work closely with engineering on trade-off discussions and contribute to design systems and Storybook to ensure consistency, scalability, and feasibility

  • User Research & Validation: Ability to formulate hypotheses and design user interviews, usability tests, and occasional on-site research to generate actionable insights and validate design decisions

  • Ownership & Impact: End-to-end ownership of meaningful product challenges, with the opportunity to shape critical decisions and create tangible impact in a high-growth environment

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Educational Background: A degree in design, human–computer interaction, communication sciences, information design, or a comparable field

  • Professional Experience: 2+ years of product design experience in a complex B2B software environment, with hands-on work on real-world digital applications (beyond websites)

  • Design & Prototyping Skills: Proficiency with modern design tools (especially Figma) and high-fidelity prototyping, and a strong command of UX principles and testing methods

  • Design Systems Knowledge: Experience working with and contributing to tokenized design systems

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, engaging in trade-off discussions and clearly communicating how design decisions impact usability, performance, and outcomes

  • Accessibility-literate: Understanding of accessibility standards and their practical application in digital interfaces

  • Mindset & Ways of Working: A systems thinker with a solution-oriented mindset who thrives in ambiguity and drives clarity, execution, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment

  • Communication Skills: Fluency in German and English, with the ability to clearly articulate how design decisions impact usability, performance, and outcomes

NICE-TO-HAVES:

  • Healthcare Experience: Experience in the healthcare industry

  • AI & Prototyping Tools: Experience with vibe coding or AI-assisted prototyping tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, V0) is a plus

YOUR BENEFITS

  • High-Impact Environment: Take on meaningful responsibility and drive real impact in a fast-scaling startup, backed by leading international investors (Sequoia and SAP)

  • Team & Culture: Be part of an international, informal team in a motivating startup environment, with the chance to contribute directly to our growth and overall success

  • Learning & Development: Ongoing support for your personal and professional growth through continuous learning and feedback

  • Flexibility & Work Style: Flexible working hours and a trust-based approach to time tracking, allowing you to set your own rhythm

  • Equity Participation: A virtual stock option package (VSOP) to share in Avelios’ long-term success

  • Compensation & Perks: Monthly meal allowance (up to €75), full coverage of the Deutschlandticket, access to Urban Sports Club or a subsidized Wellpass membership, bike leasing, and Corporate Benefits with discounts across a wide range of providers

INTERVIEW PROCESS

  • Introductory Call: Initial conversation with our Talent Acquisition Manager, Maria (30 min)

  • Portfolio Interview: Deep dive into your past work with our Product Design Lead, Kim (45 min)
