Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Advisor to join our team in Alexandria. This role is ideal for a safety professional with strong operational experience and a solid background in chemical and hazardous substances management. You will play a key role in fostering a positive safety culture and ensuring compliance across our operations.

Key responsibilities, however, are not limited to:

  • Provide expert H&S advice, coaching and support to managers, supervisors, employees and contractors.
  • Support consistent risk management practices, including training in tools such as Take 5s and JHAs.
  • Lead identification and risk assessment of chemical hazards on site.
  • Ensure compliance with chemical management requirements including registers, SDS, labelling, storage and segregation.
  • Facilitate reporting and recording of incidents, hazards and near misses.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Conduct inspections, audits and site visits to verify compliance and safe work practices.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of the H&S Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards.
  • Deliver H&S training and awareness programs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of H&S and chemical safety standards.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety (degree or postgraduate), or equivalent experience.
  • Current Driver’s License
  • National Police Clearance
  • Proven experience in a site-based Health & Safety Advisor role within operational environments.
  • Strong experience managing chemical hazards, hazardous substances and/or dangerous goods.
  • Hands-on experience conducting chemical risk assessments and implementing controls.
  • Sound knowledge of chemical registers, SDS, labelling, storage and segregation requirements.
  • Experience in incident investigation, audits and inspections involving high-risk hazards.
  • Solid understanding of Australian WHS legislation and hazardous chemicals Codes of Practice.
