  • 0.7 FTE ongoing position
  • Based on the eastern shores of nipaluna/Hobart in lutruwita/Tasmania – On-site role with outreach across Southern Tasmania
    $44.78 - $48.99 per hour + 12% super + Salary Packaging benefits of up to $18,550 annually

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation with Each being one of the lead agencies. headspace Eastern Shore and headspace Early Psychosis deliver youth and family-friendly mental health services for young people aged 12–25 (15–25 for Early Psychosis). At the heart of this support is a multidisciplinary team working together to provide evidence-based, recovery-oriented care.


Your role, your impact
As a Vocational Specialist, you’ll walk alongside young people as they navigate employment and education pathways. You’ll provide tailored support to help them build confidence, secure meaningful work, and maintain long-term participation in vocational activities. Working within a collaborative team, you’ll connect with employers, co-design career plans, and advocate for young people’s strengths, making a real difference in their lives.

You will:

  • Support young people experiencing mental health challenges through centre-based and assertive outreach, helping them engage in vocational education and competitive employment
  • Create tailored career profiles and individual employment plans with young people, alongside input from the broader care team
  • Build strong employer and stakeholder relationships to create suitable, sustainable job opportunities
  • Lead job search, job development and employer outreach activities that connect young people with meaningful opportunities
  • Provide practical support with applications, placements and in-work follow-up to help young people stay engaged and succeed
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, external services and employment providers to strengthen vocational outcomes
  • Present at meetings and workshops to promote the vocational program internally and externally
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement, compliance and service accreditation requirements


About you
You’re someone who brings warmth, initiative and a practical understanding of what helps young people move towards work, study and greater independence.

You’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting young people with mental health and wellbeing challenges, using youth-centred approaches
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field
  • Experience in career coaching or career planning support
  • Strong relationship-building skills and confidence engaging with employers and community partners
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, paired with strong organisation and time management
  • Current state-based driver’s licence

You bring local experience in Tasmania (particularly Southern Tasmania) and understand the community, local employers, and the unique challenges and opportunities young people face.

You also have:

  • Knowledge of the employment services sector, Centrelink, and state and federal employment initiatives that impact young people
  • Experience building productive business and employer relationships
  • Understanding of the barriers young people can face when accessing work and education opportunities
