About this role

Location: Remote

Overview

We are seeking a theologically trained writer to join a collaborative team developing a Christ-centered commentary on the Gospels and Acts. This project is written for the thoughtful, everyday Bible student who wants to go deeper—without requiring highly technical academic detail. The commentary should reflect careful exegesis and a clearly articulated Christ-centered hermeneutic. Our goal is to land between conversational pastoral commentaries and academic volumes—accessible, theologically rich, and intellectually serious. An ecumenical tone is imperative throughout, engaging interpretive differences with charity and avoiding unnecessary polemics.

Scope of Work

  • Collaborate with a team of contributors under editorial and theological oversight
  • Research and write assigned portions of the Gospels and/or Acts
  • Provide clear, structured commentary that includes:
    • Literary and historical context
    • Explanation of key theological themes
    • Engagement with major interpretive questions
    • Selective interaction with the original languages where illuminating (without becoming technical)
  • Articulate how each passage contributes to the revelation of Christ and the mission of the early church
  • Write for serious lay readers—clear and accessible, but not simplified
  • Address areas of theological disagreement with fairness, clarity, and ecumenical charity
  • Revise material in response to editorial and peer review
  • Ensure alignment with the organization’s doctrinal commitments
  • Explicit Christ-centered and redemptive-historical connections
  • Draw out thoughtful, textually grounded practical application for contemporary readers
  • Write not merely to inform, but to form aiming at spiritual transformation, worship, and deeper trust in Christ

Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or another advanced theology degree required
  • Demonstrated competency in New Testament exegesis
  • Working knowledge of Koine Greek
  • A clearly articulated Christ-centered hermeneutic
  • Familiarity with major evangelical scholarship on the Gospels and Acts
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage diverse theological perspectives with humility and care
  • Experience in pastoral ministry, theological education, or substantive Bible teaching preferred
  • Ability to write clearly for educated lay readers
  • Comfortable collaborating within a multi-author theological project
  • Willingness to receive and implement substantive editorial feedback

Commitment

Contract, per-project basis.

Compensation

Compensation is determined based on project scope and complexity.

Additional Information

Contractors are engaged based on the needs of specific projects and are not guaranteed ongoing or full-time work. Participation in meetings, workshops, or collaborative sessions may be requested depending on the project timeline.
