JOB TITLE: Diesel Truck Mechanic
REPORTS TO: Fleet Manager, Service Manager, and or Owner
PURPOSE: Our Diesel Truck Mechanics are responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections on our fleet of diesel trucks. This position ensures that our vehicles operate safely and efficiently, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform diagnostic tests on vehicles.
- Analyze diagnostic test results.
- Replace vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
- Check vehicle lighting systems.
- Test drive vehicles to gauge performance and confirm repairs.
- Shuttle trucks if other repairs are needed.
- Performing preventative maintenance on trucks.
- Patch or replace tires on trucks.
- Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles.
- Utilize Samsara Software to track truck repairs.
- Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist.
- Maintain a parts inventory.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop.
- Review DVIRs daily to address issues.
- Communicate and coordinate with dispatch regarding any trucks that need to be taken offline for repairs or maintenance.
- All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or diploma in mechanical or automotive engineering preferred.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- ASE Diesel Certification.
- Valid CDL Class A driver's license required.
- 3-5 years experience as a diesel mechanic, including a strong understanding of diesel engines, systems, and diagnostics.
Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components.
- Good IT and diagnostic skills.
- Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
- Proficiency with Road Ranger, Cummins Insite, Davie4, and Samsara software.
- Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 100 lbs.
- Position requires kneeling, crouching, reaching, and bending while working on vehicles.
- Position requires the ability to work in all weather conditions to perform repairs.
- Position may work in the office or work remotely with an agreed upon schedule.
- Minimal travel may be required.
- Some evenings and weekends may be required to get trucks returned to service.
