Job Description

As a Claims Technical Specialist, you’ll provide expert technical guidance across Income Protection, Life, Trauma and TPD claims, helping drive quality assessments and positive outcomes for our customers. You’ll partner closely with Claims Managers to build capability, embed best practice and continuously improve the way we do claims—ensuring our approach reflects industry standards, TAL policy and a strong customer focus.

You will:

  • Provide expert technical advice across claims, including assessment review, adverse decision sign‑off and authorisation within delegation.
  • Coach and support Claims Consultants to deliver timely, high‑quality and customer‑focused claim outcomes.
  • Build technical capability across the team through coaching, training and uplift against the TAL claims capability framework.
  • Drive best practice by developing, embedding and applying claims procedures, policy terms and technical guidelines.
  • Ensure claims decisions and interactions meet TAL governance, compliance standards and regulatory obligations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in life insurance claims, with strong technical expertise developed in a senior claims or specialist role.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, uplift capability and embed technical knowledge across claims teams.
  • Strong understanding of life insurance legislation, codes of practice and regulatory requirements, applied confidently in claims assessment.
  • Ability to think critically, identify barriers and develop practical solutions to support sound claim outcomes.
  • Clear, confident communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders and deliver a high‑quality customer experience.
