About this role

Role Overview

The Instructional Designer is responsible for diagnosing learning needs and designing, developing, and deploying effective learning solutions that improve individual and organizational performance. This role works closely with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and cross-functional partners to translate complex information into clear, engaging, and measurable learning experiences. Success requires balancing instructional rigor with creativity, speed, and usability across multiple delivery formats, including digital, instructor-led, and performance-support tools. The role operates in a dynamic environment where priorities evolve, timelines are tight, and learning effectiveness must be demonstrated with data. As part of the organization’s digital learning strategy, this role leverages modern learning technologies and AI-enabled tools to improve design efficiency, learner engagement, and outcome measurement.

Employee Value Proposition (EVP)

This role offers the opportunity to shape how people learn, perform, and grow by creating learning solutions that have visible, measurable impact on real work. The Instructional Designer will work on diverse projects, partner with experts across the organization, and continuously experiment with new tools, technologies, and instructional approaches. The role provides strong professional growth through exposure to emerging learning technologies, data-driven design, and increasingly complex learning challenges. For someone motivated by improving capability at scale, this role represents a meaningful long-term career opportunity.

Major Performance Objectives (First 12 Months)

Objective 1: Conduct High-Quality Needs Analyses and Define Learning Strategies
Within the first year, lead structured needs analyses for priority initiatives by partnering with stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify performance gaps, root causes, and success metrics. Translate findings into clear learning objectives aligned to business outcomes, recommending the most effective instructional strategies and delivery methods. Ensure each learning solution is performance-focused rather than content-driven. Success is demonstrated by stakeholder alignment, clear learning charters, and solutions that directly address identified performance needs.

Objective 2: Design and Develop Effective Learning Solutions Across Modalities
Design and develop a portfolio of learning assets, including e-learning modules via Articulate, instructor-led materials, videos, simulations, job aids, and assessments, that are instructionally sound, engaging, and usable on the job. Apply adult learning principles and accessibility standards to ensure learning is inclusive and effective. Deliver projects on time and to scope while maintaining high quality and consistency. Success is demonstrated by on-time delivery, learner adoption, and positive stakeholder feedback.

Objective 3: Measure Learning Effectiveness and Drive Continuous Improvement
Implement assessment strategies to evaluate learning effectiveness, including knowledge checks, performance measures, and feedback mechanisms. Analyze learning data to determine impact and identify improvement opportunities. Use insights to refine content, delivery methods, and instructional approaches. Success is demonstrated by documented improvements in learning outcomes, performance metrics, and learner satisfaction over time.

Critical Subtasks

Subtask 1: Instructional Design & Content Development Execution
Independently design and build instructional content using established instructional design models, ensuring alignment between objectives, activities, and assessments. Adapt content complexity and format to learner needs and business context, producing materials that can be readily applied on the job.

Subtask 2: Technology & Authoring Tool Utilization
Use instructional authoring and multimedia tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline) to create interactive, visually engaging learning experiences. Apply sound visual and interaction design principles to improve comprehension and retention while maintaining development efficiency.

Subtask 3: Learning Management System (LMS) Administration
Manage learning content within the LMS, ensuring materials are properly organized, accessible, trackable, and version-controlled. Configure courses, assessments, and reporting to support measurement of learner participation and outcomes.

Subtask 4: Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Coordination
Work effectively with SMEs, technical teams, designers, and other developers to ensure content accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery. Proactively communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs, adjusting plans as priorities or requirements change.

Subtask 5: Evaluation, Feedback, and Iteration
Collect and synthesize qualitative and quantitative feedback from learners and stakeholders. Use this information to iterate on content and improve instructional effectiveness, usability, and alignment to performance goals.

Subtask 6: Continuous Learning & Best-Practice Adoption
Research emerging instructional design methods, adult learning research, and learning technologies. Pilot and incorporate relevant best practices to keep learning solutions current, innovative, and aligned with industry standards.

Subtask 7: Integrate AI and Automation to Improve Learning Design and Delivery
Proactively identify opportunities to use AI and automation to enhance instructional design efficiency, personalization, content creation, and evaluation.
