PHYSICIAN ASST - OPEN HEART SURGERY - $10K SIGN-ON BONUS  

5+ to 7 years experience

Our Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation,joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.  

Position Overview:

The Physician Assistant may perform duties and tasks only under the direction and supervision of the supervising physician, and only within the scope of their licensure. Such duties include:

Functions as an assistant to the surgeon in the operating room during surgical procedures.

Performs endoscopic vein harvest under the direction of the surgeon.

The first assistant may perform wound closure under the direction of the surgeon.

Assists the cardiac nursing team in case and room preparation.

Pulls cases, assists with inventory control.

Assists with patient transport to the OR and to the ICU as needed.

Assists with maintenance of inventory needed for surgical procedures

Performs pre-operative patient hair removal as appropriate

Resource for OR staff in patient positioning and table operation

Qualifications:

Position Requirements:

Able to understand complex written and oral instructions. Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations. Comprehensive general clerical skills required. Demonstrates effective oral and written 

A Physician Assistant-Surgical Services shall provide proof of current licensure by the Physician’s Assistants Examining Committee of the California board of Medical Quality Assurance.

A Physician Assistant-Surgical Services shall have a Supervisory Physician who:

Is a physician currently licensed by the State of California.

Has obtained approval from the Board of Medical Quality Assurance to supervise a Physician’s Assistant.

Is a current member in good standing of the Medical Staff of the Hospital and practices regularly at the Hospital; and

The Supervising Physician shall establish the following in writing, together with any supporting documentation:

That the Supervising Physician accepts full responsibility for the performance of all professional activities of the Physician Assistant.

That the Supervising Physician has obtained appropriate approval from the Medical Board of California to supervise a Physician Assistant for the particular type and scope of practice for which applied.

The Supervising Physician shall agree in writing that each applicant is required to have a current CPR support certification.
