Job Description.

Our full-service AE firm located in downtown Minneapolis, has an open position available for a Project Mechanical Engineer in our Mechanical Engineering group. The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of building types associated within the markets of Public & Institutional, Manufacturing, Distribution, Healthcare, and Corporate located throughout the United States. This position will take an active leadership role in managing a local staff of engineers, designers, and technicians and take an active participation at design review meetings, equipment and system selection, coordination with governing agencies, quality control reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, and resource management. Work product to consist of Contract Documents including drawings and specifications for building mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection).

Responsibilities: 

 Discuss objectives, requirements, and budgets of project with Project Managers, vendors, and clientele 

• Supervise the work of specialists, technicians, and engineers assigned to applicable projects to ensure quality assurance, discipline scheduling and budgeting

• Act as a mentor for department personnel by providing continuous assistance and support through professional training and career development

• Lead the Mechanical design and planning of projects, oversee production of contract documents, review submittals, and solve field coordination issues. Demonstrate experience in varied approaches document delivery such as Design-Bid-Build, fast-track delivery, and Integrated delivery via Design-Build

• Proficiency in engineering analysis and calculations: HVAC, plumbing and fire protection

• Proven competency in delivering using Revit and other BIM applications. This will include the work planning activities associated with a BIM enabled process

• Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance in relation to zoning laws, fire regulations, building codes and other ordinances; convey applicable changes of local, state, and federal regulations and ordinances to department managers and personnel

Qualifications: 

Strong computer skills with use of Microsoft Office applications • In depth knowledge of the Mechanical sections of Life Safety Codes, the IBC Code and Building Codes on the Local, State and Federal level • Write and edit Mechanical specifications and equipment selection for Mechanical systems and devices • Conduct job-site inspections to ensure projects are adhering to specifications and design layout • Report status of design process and cost analysis to appropriate Project Manager; be accountable for Mechanical project budgets • Responsible for applying company’s risk management practices of project engineering • Perform research and review trade publications and literature to stay abreast of developments within the field of Mechanical Engineering; attend local, state, and national seminars, conventions and summits; collaborate with Section Leaders, Project Managers and Market Sector Leaders to improve or develop new engineering methods to improve efficiency, technique, quality and dependability • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Ability to persuasively and visually communicate ideas • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with team members • Excellent time management and organization skills • Performs other duties as assigned or instructed


Education and Licensing • BSME degree from ABET accredited college/university • The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of progressive experience in the Mechanical Engineering field. • Professional registration as Mechanical engineer required • Experience in designing within our markets of Federal, Healthcare or Industrial is desired • Current affiliation and/or membership of local, state, or national industry organization(s) is a plus LEED® Accredited Professional is a plus.
