Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground gold mine. A recent consent for the Waihi North Project, a new mine to be developed 6km north of the existing operation has provided a long term extension of mine life providing our 400 staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.

Job Description

To carry out safe LHD Operations including the removal and transport of ore material from stopes to tipples, stockpiles or trucks either by direct operation of the loader or remotely using LOS (or Teleremote) systems.  Cleaning out development headings and performing clean-ups as per standard and transporting waste material to trucks and backfilling stopes.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Operational

  • Perform risk assessments during course of duties.
  • Perform pre-starts and checks on all equipment, ground conditions, and consumables.
  • Follow procedures when relieving operators.
  • Liaise with charge crew and other mining personnel.
  • Lead by example and fulfil all job roles trained and competent in.
  • Participate in shift change-over and pass on relevant information, fill out all paper work and reporting procedures.
  • Use time management systems and operate and maintain cost effective practices.

Handovers

  • Handovers must be thorough

Other:

  • Assist with the training and development of other mine operators by providing on-the-job information, mentoring and guidance to ensure they are operating safely.
  • Carry out all other duties that may reasonably be required.

Qualifications

  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Trained and assessed as competent in the operation of the loader.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in underground mining preferred.
  • Previous experience operating relevant equipment would be highly regarded.
