JOB SUMMARY: The Parks Maintenance Worker is responsible for supporting the upkeep, cleanliness, and basic maintenance of tribal parks, recreational facilities (splash pad, concession stands, etc.), and open spaces under the general supervision of the Parks Director. This position performs routine grounds keeping and maintenance duties to ensure that all park areas remain safe, functional, and visually appealing for community use.


The Parks Maintenance Worker assists in maintaining landscaping, equipment, and facilities in alignment with the Tribe’s cultural values, environmental stewardship, and commitment to community well-being. Duties include caring for outdoor spaces, monitoring park conditions, and addressing minor repairs as needed. This position contributes to providing safe, accessible, and culturally respectful recreational environments for tribal members and visitors by helping protect and preserve tribal lands and public spaces.


EMPLOYMENT DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs routine maintenance and upkeep of tribal parks, trails, recreational facilities, and open spaces, including mowing, trimming, watering, trash removal, and general grounds keeping.
  • Cleans and maintains park facilities such as restrooms, picnic areas, playgrounds, and common areas to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for the community.
  • Assists with minor repairs and maintenance of park infrastructure, including fencing, benches, signage, irrigation systems, and equipment.
  • Operates and maintains tools and equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools in a safe and efficient manner; reports any equipment issues or needed repairs.
  • Monitors park conditions and reports safety hazards, vandalism, or maintenance needs to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the setup and breakdown of community events, recreational activities, and cultural gatherings held in park areas.
  • Supports basic landscaping duties, including planting, pruning, and maintaining vegetation in alignment with environmental stewardship and preservation of tribal lands.
  • Follows established safety procedures and complies with applicable tribal policies and regulations while performing duties.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies and materials needed for daily maintenance activities.
  • Provides courteous and respectful interaction with tribal members, visitors, and staff while working in public spaces.
  • Responds to work orders and assigned tasks within established timelines and procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining accessibility of parks and facilities, including clearing pathways and ensuring public areas are usable and safe.
  • Participates in seasonal maintenance activities such as weed control, splash pad seasonal maintenance, storm cleanup, and weather-related preparations.
  • Supports efforts to protect and preserve tribal lands by maintaining clean, safe, and culturally respectful environments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Basic knowledge of grounds keeping, landscaping, or general maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain common landscaping and maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle and equipment care, including routine inspection, cleaning, fueling, and reporting maintenance needs.
  • Ability to safely operate work-related vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs), in accordance with safety guidelines and tribal policies.
  • Understanding proper use, handling, and storage of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices, including proper handling of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and equipment.
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards and ability to follow established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and cleanliness issues.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with tribal members, visitors, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn tribal values, cultural sensitivity, and environmental stewardship practices.

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card as a condition of employment.
  • Will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining all required certifications related to aquatic facility operations; which may include Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or any other certifications that require water safety, chemical handling, and aquatic risk management as applicable to the operation of water parks, splash pads, and community pool facilities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to be insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections and work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Must successfully pass a background check; drug screening will be required.
  • Preference may be given to qualified Tribal Members in accordance with tribal employment preference policies.
