Role Summary:


The Assistant Surveyor will conduct marine, cargo, and bunker surveys, manages client communication, and delivers timely reports while supporting company services and maintaining impartial, professional standards.


Contract: Permanent 

Location: Mauritius, Port Louis (On-Site)


Key Responsibilities:  


    • Bunker related jobs (BQS / OBQ / On- Off hire etc.) operational planning / client concerns resolution.
    • Carry out the prescribed services with respect to the work from IG P&I, corresponding with the Major Protection and Indemnity clubs. Arranges/attends to independent cargo and marine survey assignments within the location.
    • Complete survey assignments (Marine, P&I, H&M and Cargo surveys), communicate professionally with clients and third parties, issue preliminary and final reports within the prescribed time period and set KPI’s.
    • Support/assist to oversee all services provided to the local and international markets but also ensure that it supports the requirements of other company streams such as; Ship agency, Ship Chandelling, Liner Services etc. In terms of appointments received from their own principals.
    • Assist/support Line Manager to ensure that all work is performed on an independent and impartial basis based on facts of each individual case.  Foster and promote a spirit of professional excellence, work accountability, teamwork and prioritisation.


    HSSE - Health, Safety, Security and Risk (mandatory requirements)

    • Comply with all Health & Safety policies.
    • Accountable for assessing HSSE risk and implementing risk controls within area of responsibility.
    • Accountable for reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses whether the persons are injured or not.
    • Taking action within area of accountability to ensure the HSSE of both the job holder and other persons who may be affected by acts carried out or failed to be carried out by the job holder while at work.
    • Ensure full compliance with the ISS HSSE Management System.


    The post holder will carry out any other additional responsibilities within the scope and purpose of the department and by the Line Manager to ensure full utilization of all Inchcape systems.


    Key Deliverables:


    • Proactively manage a diverse portfolio of bunker jobs with accuracy, efficiency, and ownership.
    • Execute all survey assignments to a high standard, ensuring full alignment with client-specific requirements.
    • Contribute to planning and supporting future business development initiatives.
    • Ensure consistent compliance with corporate ethics, HSSE policies, and all regulatory requirements.
    • Drive quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement within the survey department.
    • Demonstrate strong analytical skills when reviewing reports, policies, and procedures.
    • Maintain exceptional attention to detail, using data, evidence, and sound judgment to inform decisions.
    • Deliver excellent customer service and build strong, long-term client relationships.
    • Identify, assess, and communicate potential risks within work areas.


    Candidate Requirements:


    • Graduate / Engineer. 
    • Sailing experience as a deck or engine officer.
    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
    • Relevant experience within the survey, marine, or shipping industry.
    • Strong knowledge of shipping operations and customer requirements.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and internal computer systems.
    • Ability to work under pressure and for extended hours when required.
    • Valid driving licence advantageous
