About this role

Under general supervision of the Director, the Clinical Informaticist provides technical information systems knowledge with implementing and maintaining clinical information systems.  Participates in development (database/application), training, troubleshooting, testing, and researching of clinical information systems. Cross trains for all applications to maintain and support system. Participates in clinical systems implementation cycle (planning, design, testing, validation, documentation, and ongoing support.). Works collaboratively with users of clinical information systems in both clinical and non-clinical areas as well as with Information Systems. Collaborates with appropriate departments to develop and maintain a technology plan that supports organization's needs.  Participates in assessment, documentation, training, testing, and optimization of workflow/clinical systems.

  • Serves as liaison between the clinical departments and Information Systems while collaborating with Nurse Informaticist.
  • Participates in design, build, validation/testing, and implementation of clinical systems.
  • Directs and prioritizes workload depending on project timelines and organization/departmental needs.
  • Participates in broader IT functions as required.
  • Primarily responsible for outpatient EMR systems managed by HMH.
  • Assists, develops, and provides ongoing education/training for clinical information system applications and workflow process changes.
  • Collaborates to problem solve, appropriately troubleshooting clinical systems.
  • Maintain ongoing knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in system testing before Going Live as needed.
  • Participates in training, and education regarding clinical informatics as needed.
  • Facilitates communication to answer questions, concerns, and to solicit ideas.
  • Communicates clearly and efficiently verbally, written, and electronically using available technology.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
  • Participates in continuous Quality Improvement programs.
  • Abides by the Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS

All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members.  Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.  Degree in healthcare related field preferred.
  • Experience: prior experience in a clinical role preferred. 
  • License/Certifications: none required.
  • Required Skills: Technical skills in data analysis and data management. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent: sitting.
  • Occasional: standing, walking, reaching, lifting, carrying, bending, & squatting,
  • Visual and hearing acuity required.  Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
