8086 - Design Engineering Intern
About this role
The Design Engineer Intern will support the Design Engineering team during the early
stages of product development, contributing to concept generation, design
documentation, engineering analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role
provides hands-on exposure to product design processes, engineering tools,
manufacturing considerations, and project execution while supporting the growth and
scalability of the Engineering Business Unit in Toluca.
The intern will work closely with Design Engineers, Project Engineers, and Engineering
Managers to develop technical skills and gain practical experience in product development
from concept through release.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development Support
Analyze, evaluate, and understand customer design work packages, specifications, and
project requirements.
Assist in developing engineering concepts, design proposals, and technical solutions.
Support the creation and maintenance of CAD models, engineering drawings, and design
documentation.
Participate in design reviews and engineering discussions.
Assist in BOM creation, revision control, and engineering change documentation.
Engineering Analysis
Conduct basic engineering calculations and feasibility studies.
Support tolerance stack-up evaluations and design validation activities.
Research materials, manufacturing processes, and industry best practices.
Assist in identifying potential design risks and proposing corrective actions.
Process & Productivity Improvement
Develop and maintain engineering tracking tools, databases, and dashboards.
Gather, organize, and analyze engineering productivity metrics.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
Assist in documenting and standardizing engineering procedures and best practices.
Project Support
Track project deliverables, milestones, and engineering activities.
Support communication and coordination between engineering, manufacturing, suppliers,
and project management teams.
Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and technical summaries for internal and
customer reviews.
Technical Skills
Basic understanding of engineering design principles.
Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo, or similar).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes is preferred.
Experience with data analysis, Power BI, or engineering dashboards.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous academic or internship experience in product design or manufacturing.
Exposure to automotive, retail display, consumer products, or industrial products.
