We’re looking for a Grant Specialist who can turn funding opportunities into real impact, someone who understands that behind every proposal is a family waiting for a safe place to call home.


Position Snapshot

📍 Location: Tampa, FL (Hybrid – 3 days in office)

Department: Development / Grants

Reports to: Grant Development Manager

Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000 annually


The Grant Specialist plays a key role in advancing RTGFL’s funding strategy by identifying, writing, securing, and managing grants that support programs across Florida. This role blends strategy, storytelling, compliance, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful funding outcomes and program execution.


Position Summary

The Central West District Grant Specialist supports RTGFL’s fundraising and grant development efforts by managing the full grant lifecycle, from prospect research and proposal development to award management and reporting.


This role requires a strong writer who is equally comfortable with data, compliance, and coordination across departments, ensuring that grant-funded programs are executed effectively and in alignment with funder requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Grant Strategy & Pipeline Development

  • Identify, research, and evaluate funding opportunities from foundations, government agencies, corporations, and community-based organizations
  • Support implementation of a strategic grant development plan aligned with organizational priorities
  • Analyze funding trends and proactively identify opportunities that align with RTGFL programs and service areas


Proposal Development & Writing

  • Prepare and submit high-quality letters of inquiry, grant applications, narratives, and funding reports
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop program descriptions, scopes of work, and budgets
  • Tailor proposals to align with funder priorities, program outcomes, and community impact


Grant Management & Compliance

  • Manage the full grant lifecycle, including tracking deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with funder guidelines, contracts, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with Programs, Construction, and Finance teams to gather data, track outcomes, and support reimbursement processes
  • Maintain accurate and organized grant files, agreements, and reporting calendars


Relationship Management & Stewardship

  • Support development and stewardship of relationships with funders, donors, and partners
  • Provide timely updates, reports, and communications to maintain strong funder engagement
  • Represent RTGFL professionally in all interactions with external stakeholders


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal departments, including Programs, Construction, and Finance, to ensure alignment between funding and execution
  • Support organizational fundraising initiatives, donor events, and community engagement efforts as needed
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of grant systems, processes, and tracking tools


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, English, public relations, marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or development
  • Strong understanding of the grant lifecycle (research, proposal development, award management, reporting)
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, persuasively, and professionally for diverse audiences
  • Experience working with budgets, program data, and reporting requirements
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); CRM experience (e.g., Salesforce) preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance
  • Ability to represent RTGFL professionally with funders, partners, and community stakeholders
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with federal, state, or HUD-funded grants strongly preferred
  • Experience in housing, community development, or human services nonprofit organizations
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks and reimbursement-based funding
