About this role

Summary:

Under the umbrella of the Firm’s Managing Clerk’s Office and according to established Firm policies and procedures, the Litigation Docket and Court Services Specialist provides expert day-to day support in case docketing, court rules, case research, legal procedures, filing pleadings in electronic formats with the various courts that the firm practices, provides various other assigned high level court related services to the firm and applies risk management quality control measures within the department. Observes confidentiality in all client and Firm matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in process and docket functionality that apply to all assigned court filing deadlines, discovery, and other relevant event dates and reminders for the Litigation Department, utilizing the firm’s court rules-based docketing software.

  • Review litigation documents for relevant dates, and alert attorneys and paralegals of upcoming deadlines by effectively using the docketing system to enter applicable dates.

  • Ability to conduct high level research, retrieve pertinent information on litigants, court cases, dockets and judge information from all court-related databases, (i.e. PACER, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, DocketBird, CourtLink), and other online court and vendor services.

  • Respond to procedural requests/inquiries from attorneys and staff regarding calendared events and deadlines, pleadings, court procedures, applicable court rules and date calculations in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Create, prepare and distribute docket reports with upcoming deadlines to legal teams and applies quality control methodologies on all docketing/court data. Works closely with Litigation Docket Manager and other Docketing Team Members to ensure consistency with regard to Docketing among all twenty two offices.

  • Required to have well rounded national experience, a comprehensive knowledge of State and Federal Court Rules and procedures that apply to all aspects of performing compliant electronic court filings for the firm under the direction of the Managing Clerk’s Office.

  • Knowledge of State, Federal and Pro Hac Vice bar admissions processes.

  • Other Docketing, high level Court Services duties and ad hoc projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of recent litigation experience, preference given to candidates with litigation docketing experience using a rules-based docketing software

  • Experienced docketing and/or supporting litigation in multiple states, both Federal districts and State jurisdictions

  • Expert knowledge of court rules, procedures and electronic court filing practices and process in Local, State and Federal Courts.

  • Experience with CompuLaw desired, but not required.

  • High level understanding and working knowledge of litigation phases and it’s trajectory from Complaint to Appeal.

  • Expert knowledge of legal documents and terminology.

  • Computer proficient with preferred skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, Imanage and Adobe.

  • Motivated and high level professional who works efficiently as an independent and collaborates well within a team.

  • A detail oriented skill set and have the ability to prioritize time efficiently while handling multiple tasks under time constraints

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate effectively with office staff and legal personnel in person, by e-mail and telephone; accurately follow instructions from a diverse group of attorneys and staff, and provide information with courtesy and tact.
