About this role

The role involves the direct on-site supervision of the complete installation, testing, and commissioning of all mechanical systems. Responsibilities include managing the daily activities of MEP subcontractors, ensuring strict adherence to approved drawings and specifications, monitoring progress, and enforcing all quality and safety protocols.

The position requires a seasoned mechanical construction professional with deep, practical knowledge of modern MEP systems, particularly in a high-rise context. The Construction Supervisor will be a critical link between the engineering team and the on-site workforce, responsible for ensuring the successful execution of all mechanical works from the basement plant rooms to the rooftop equipment.

Responsibilities:

1. On-Site Supervision & Installation Management:

  • Provide direct, hands-on supervision of all mechanical system installation activities on a daily basis, including HVAC (chillers, pumps, AHUs, ductwork), plumbing & drainage, fire protection (sprinklers, standpipes), and gas systems.
  • Manage and coordinate the daily work of the mechanical subcontractors, ensuring that all installation teams are working efficiently, safely, and in accordance with the approved program.
  • Monitor site productivity and progress against the weekly and daily work plans, proactively identifying and resolving any issues related to manpower, materials, or equipment that may impact the schedule.
  • Interpret complex mechanical drawings, schematics, and specifications to ensure that all systems are installed correctly and in full compliance with the design intent.

2. Quality Control & Assurance:

  • Act as the frontline enforcer of the project's quality standards for all mechanical works, conducting continuous inspections of workmanship, materials, and installation practices.
  • Ensure all installations comply with project specifications and international standards (e.g., SMACNA, NFPA, IPC).
  • Raise formal inspection requests (IRs) for all completed mechanical works and coordinate with the Field Engineer and QA/QC team to ensure timely approvals.
  • Witness and verify key quality checks, including ductwork leakage testing, pipe pressure testing, and initial equipment pre-power checks.

3. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):

  • Champion a culture of safety for all mechanical works, with a particular focus on high-risk activities such as heavy equipment lifting (chillers, AHUs), hot works (welding), and working in confined spaces.
  • Lead daily site safety walks (Toolbox Talks) for mechanical teams, ensuring all workers are following safe work procedures and using the correct PPE.
  • Review subcontractor's method statements and risk assessments for all mechanical installation activities.
  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all mechanical work areas.

4. Coordination & Reporting:

  • Prepare accurate daily and weekly site reports detailing the progress of mechanical works, resource allocation, and any delays or technical challenges encountered.
  • Liaise closely with the Mechanical Field Engineer to resolve technical queries and ensure all works are approved before concealment.
  • Coordinate proactively with other discipline supervisors (Electrical, Civil) to ensure smooth integration of services and avoid clashes on site.
  • Assist in tracking the delivery and proper storage of all major mechanical equipment and materials

ย

  • A diploma, higher national diploma, or trade certificate in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is essential. A bachelor's degree is a significant advantage.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of direct, hands-on experience in a mechanical construction supervision role (e.g., Mechanical Foreman, General Foreman, MEP Superintendent) on large-scale building projects.ย Experience on high-rise towers is highly advantageous.
  • Extensive experience working for a major MEP subcontractor or a main contractor with a strong self-perform MEP division is mandatory.
  • Expert practical knowledge of the installation, testing, and commissioning of a wide range of mechanical systems, including chilled water systems, large-scale ductwork, vertical plumbing risers, and fire protection systems.
  • Must be highly skilled in reading and interpreting complex mechanical and plumbing drawings, P&IDs, and coordination drawings.
