We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join our well-regarded electric motor and machine shop with over 100 years of industry experience. This is perfect role for a true mechanical problem-solver who enjoys the challenge of restoring large-scale industrial equipment to OEM specifications. In this role, you will utilize a diverse fleet of engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, and grinders to perform precision machining and repairs.

Compensation

  • $27 - $36 /hr
  • $2 / hr shift differential on 2nd

Overtime

  • Consistent overtime opportunity
  • Expect about 50 hours / week

Shift

  • 1st and 2nd shift openings
  • 1st: 7:00 - 3:30pm
  • 2nd: 3:00 - 11:30pm

Key Responsibilities

  • Manual Machining: Set up and operate a variety of manual machine tools, including engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses to repair motor components.
  • Precision Measurement: Perform exacting mechanical measurements using dial indicators, micrometers, and vibration measurement instruments to ensure .0005'' tolerances.
  • Material Handling: Safely utilize overhead cranes, gantry cranes, forklifts, and associated rigging to maneuver heavy industrial components.
  • Technical Interpretation: Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to determine repair scopes for shafts, housings, and end bells.
  • Specialized Equipment: Operate balancing equipment and assist with electro-plating processes as needed to restore equipment integrity.
  • Safety & Standards: Maintain strict adherence to service center procedures and safety standards in a heavy industrial environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience as a manual machinist. Experience in electric motor repair is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skill: Advanced proficiency with various sizes of manual lathes and precision measuring tools.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong shop math skills and a deep understanding of mechanical assemblies.
  • Rigging Knowledge: Familiarity with safe lifting practices for large, heavy-duty parts.
  • Mindset: A commitment to safety, the ability to follow complex training procedures, and a willingness to work overtime or weekends when critical repairs are needed.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods; capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
