Gravel Truck Driver - Project Term (Jun - Dec 2026)

Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources Group we provide environmental, management, and operational services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect towards the environment. Current Opportunities:
Simpcw Resources LLP is growing rapidly and looking for a dependable and Gravel Truck Driver to join our team. Reporting to the Assets Manager, the Gravel Truck Driver is responsible for transporting gravel and other bulk materials from one location to another. The ideal candidate will be able to work long hours and be comfortable driving in varying weather conditions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate gravel/dump trucks to transport gravel, sand, and other materials
  • Assist in the loading of gravel and other materials onto the truck, using equipment like loaders if necessary, and ensure the load is distributed evenly
  • Secure loads properly to prevent shifting or spillage during transit, following safety guidelines and regulations
  • Unload materials at the delivery site, sometimes requiring the use of hydraulic systems to dump the load
  • Conduct thorough inspections of the truck before each trip, checking for mechanical issues, tire pressure, and fluid levels
  • Conduct routine maintenance and report any mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, commercial driving regulations, and company policies to ensure safe driving practices
  • Follow safety protocols for loading, unloading, and transporting materials, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
  • Keep accurate records of each trip, including details about the load, delivery times, destinations, and any incidents that occur
  • Maintain regular communication with dispatchers to receive instructions, report progress, and update on any issues or delays
  • Take steps to minimize environmental impact during loading, transport, and unloading, such as avoiding spillage and reducing fuel consumption
  • Complete any required paperwork or digital forms for each delivery
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience operating a gravel truck
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Proficient in operating large trucks, including maneuvering, parking, and driving in varying road and weather conditions
  • Ability to work long hours and meet the physical demands of loading, unloading, and transporting materials
  • Experience operating, loading, and securing heavy equipment is considered an asset
  • Cross-trained in hauling equipment using a gooseneck or lowbed trailer
  • Knowledge of proper load securement and balancing techniques to prevent shifting or spillage during transport
  • Basic understanding of truck maintenance, including the ability to perform routine inspections and minor maintenance tasks
  • Sufficient strength and dexterity to safely operate loading equipment and complete required physical tasks
  • Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the Simpcw First Nation community is considered an asset
