About this role

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is currently seeking adjunct faculty who are passionate about teaching and student learning for the Humanities division in the College of Arts and Sciences, specifically for vocal performance.


The adjunct professor is expected to teach in the vocal performance program while accepting the following responsibilities:   


  • Teach group performance classes (beginner and intermediate), individual lessons, and/or ensembles. The typical time commitment is between 2.5 and 8 hours of classroom time per week.
  • Utilize UPIKE’s learning management system to upload course materials, communicate with students, and enter assessment feedback and grades, adhering to all related deadlines and policies.
  • Maintain office hours for mentoring and coaching students.
  • Contribute to success and retention activities.
  • Engage in regular and responsive communication with the program and division leadership.
  • Responsibilities for all other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or above in Vocal Performance, Music Education, or related concentration.
  • Must have a minimum of eighteen graduate hours in the required teaching discipline.
  • Must have excellent organizational, communication, teaching, and decision-making skills.


Candidates who have experience with intersectional, inclusive instruction and with a demonstrated ability to incorporate diverse perspectives into teaching and student engagement are encouraged to identify those experiences in the application materials.


Candidates should also have experience and sensitivity working with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive work and learning environment in which students from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences are welcomed and can thrive.

Adjunct faculty members are encouraged to attend our professional development workshops whenever possible to improve use of educational technology, determine ways to better engage students, and reflect on methods to create the most effective environment for student growth.
