About this role

The University of Pikeville seeks an experienced and collaborative Clinical Manager to oversee daily clinical operations within the Tanner College of Dental Medicine. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient clinic flow, high-quality patient care, and a supportive learning environment for students. The Clinical Manager works closely with faculty, staff, and administration to align clinical operations with educational objectives, regulatory standards, and institutional goals.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the dental clinics to ensure efficient patient flow and effective use of clinical resources.
  • Supervise clinical support staff and coordinate staffing schedules to meet operational needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support student clinical education and ensure appropriate patient assignments and case progression.
  • Monitor clinic productivity, including patient visits, treatment completion, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee patient scheduling processes and optimize appointment utilization.
  • Address patient concerns and support resolution of service-related issues.
  • Coordinate with the Clinical Care Coordinator and other team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assist in the implementation of policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support accreditation activities and ensure adherence to required clinical standards.
  • Collaborate with finance and billing teams to support accurate documentation and revenue cycle processes.
  • Maintain clinical records and reporting systems in coordination with electronic health record processes.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of clinical staff.
  • Participate in strategic planning related to clinic growth and operational improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, health sciences, dental hygiene, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare or dental operations management, preferably in an academic, hospital, or large group practice setting.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising clinical staff, managing workflow operations, scheduling systems, patient services, and clinic efficiency initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance standards, including infection control, patient privacy, workplace safety, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Experience with electronic health record and practice management systems required; familiarity with dental software platforms such as axiUm® or comparable systems preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical and academic environment while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and service.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dental specific background strongly preferred, including experience as a dental hygienist, dental assistant, dental office manager, dentist, or other dental healthcare professional.
  • Prior experience in a predoctoral dental education program, academic health center, or teaching clinic preferred.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and processes relevant to dental education, including Commission on Dental Accreditation requirements.
  • Experience supporting student clinical progression, competency tracking, patient assignment systems, or educational clinic operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing operational improvements, quality initiatives, and cross functional collaboration within complex healthcare organizations.
