As an Expert specializing in Vehicle Accident Reconstruction, you’ll play a critical role in investigating and analyzing collisions and mechanical failures to determine cause and origin. Your work will combine engineering principles, forensic analysis, and cutting-edge technology to deliver insights that matter in high-stakes litigation environments.

Responsibilities

  • Investigating, analyzing, and reconstructing vehicular collisions and investigating failures involving vehicle systems (brakes, steering, throttle, engine, etc.).
  • Analyzing single and multiple-vehicle collisions, speeds, roadway drag factors, driver response times and behavior, lamps, tires, time-distance relationships, and collection and analysis of electronic data.
  • Preparing and presenting demonstrative diagrams, charts, and analyses of the cause and origin of various collisions.
  • Inspecting and analyzing automotive or mechanical parts for the origin and cause of failure.
  • Documenting and preserving evidence obtained.
  • Preparing analysis and written reports of findings.
  • Providing expert testimony in litigation. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Reconstruct vehicular accidents using engineering analysis, CAE-based tools, and test data where appropriate.
  • Provide collision site evidence evaluation and analysis and forensic mapping of collision sites and vehicles.
  • Inspect cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other various forms of transportation.
  • Perform damage analysis, speed analysis from damage (energy), coefficient of friction of roadway, time and distance relationships, lamp analysis, occupant kinematics, vehicle dynamics, perception and reaction times, braking efficiency of air brake systems on commercial motor vehicles, and intersection traffic signal analysis.
  • Inspect and analyze automotive parts or mechanical parts to determine the cause of failure.
  • Analyze product liability, design, and safety. 

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Professional background in vehicle accident reconstruction, law enforcement investigation, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and/or Law Enforcement investigation education (required); ACTAR accreditation and Florida PE license preferred.
  • Skills: Strong analytical ability, independent judgment, and exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Ability to remain sharp and focused during site inspections, analysis and report preparation, and courtroom testimony.

Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements

While performing this job, the employee must frequently stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear. Must be able to perform field inspections, physically move debris, inspect vehicles (passenger, commercial, tractor-trailer, etc.), and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employees may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. 

Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position. An incentive bonus is in effect for such times.  

Travel Requirements - This position requires local travel with regional travel (day trips) on rare occasion. Out-of-the-area and overnight travel may seldom be required but is not generally expected.
